All our Hilux's at work have had a recall and can not get them done till January. The reason being they only do two bars a day as they still need to fit in all the regular servicing.

Recieved my Prado back from the bodyworks last Thursday after the guard damage while reinstalling my bar. Toyota has bent over backwards to make sure I have been happy and if there are any issues to just contact them.
The repair is very good as I can not see where it was repaired.
After all the dramas, everything works correctly and is where it is meant to be. Spent sometime over the weekend and pulled the UHF cable back into place and looked at reattaching the recovery points. Had to reshape my spacers to match the new brackets so thought it was a good time to give them a new coat of paint.

I was really happy with the job that Toyota did changing over my mounts. I left my recovery points attached when mine went in and when I got the car back they were just as I had left them except for a big L paint penned on the left and R on the right. I detached the driving lights and gave them all the slack I could with the UHF arial cable, as I mounted the wire through the internals of the bar. It was only about 1m, but that must have been all they needed.

            Cheers

                Rang up today,
they could have it next wednesday, but that day didn't suit me, so changed it to the next day after that that would suit me.
Fingers crossed. Will be getting photos, and getting them to note on book in sheet that all lights (spotties incl) and recovery points are working and to be fitted and working when I pick it up.

Sure am ! Just like the brake booster recall, no letter even up to today, and that was 2-3 years ago !
Contacted Toyota then and virtually told to bugger off and talk to dealer, which I did, and had it replaced immediately.

Emailed Toyota today re recall notice (and kept a copy) but do not expect a reply.
Emailed 3 dealers with the exact email and received a reply within an hour from all.

As mentioned elsewhere in the forum, "pity toyota didn't support their product like SOME dealers do".

                    Hi,
I was hoping that I might be one of the lucky ones but…

The brackets on my 2005 model were changed to the new design ones on Tuesday. On getting it back, the gaps to the flares are very small (~3mm to flares and to 7mm the headlights) - rocking the body makes contact between bar wrap around and flares. To see if I was concerned for valid reason, I went to two other dealers for their opinion. Both said outright that it was poorly fitted and could cause damage.

The service manager at the fitting dealer has now agreed to have another look tomorrow but so far they sound like they are not taking responsibility for the final satisfactory fitment - they indicate that their job stops when the bar is on the car and all parts in the kit have been fitted. I feel that as the customer I have the right to have the final installation correct. I don't think the car has ever been 'bumped' although I bought it used so can't say for certain. I originally fitted the bar myself, with instructions gratefully received from here, and the fit and alignment was pretty good then.

Can anyone confirm that Toyota specifies that the clearance gaps with the new brackets should be the same as those specified for the old ones? I.e. 15mm+/-2mm to the headlights? It seems to make sense that they should be the same. With this information I can probably push my case further.

                    Wish me luck - Thanks

Thanks to this forum that we owners have a voice, (if only small) but at least we can notify each other as to what to watch out for with shonky dealer attitudes.
Received an email from Toyota today, in reply to my query re bullbar recall and was told that the recall letters went out in October 2010.
Still waiting on it, as well as the recall on brake booster recall 2-3 years ago.
They still have the same address I have been at for the last 7 years.........
All other mail seems to get here without any problems  :?

I got a letter last week for my 2005 Prado (sold) but not for the 2008. Regardless, the 2008 is booked in next week. Keep the info flowing as we are all benefitting.

                          G'day Viewers
Lifted the bonnet this morning, I may have been a little off centre when i pulled up on the hood but felt the bottom corner of hood (near the grill) contact something.
After putting the bonnet down again i found that clearance was minimal between bonnet and the black cover on the rear of the bull bar up right.
When i lifted it slightly pulling off centre again it struck against the top of the plastic again.
We never had this issue before the recall, although as i remember it was fairly close.
                          Regards Troy

I just came back from the Toyota dealer,,, ( they are not happy,,, Jan )
                            But i am
Apparently they DON"T like being told how to do their job properly.

This is after the idiots remove my Soverign bar last week and replaced my crash/cans under the recall.
When i got home and inspected the tug, i found that the IDIOTS also removed my GENUINE WHICH CRADLE and tossed it away because it is not compatiable with the NEW crash/cans... and said nothing about it, hoping that i wouldn't notice anything missing.
I hit the roof!!!!!!!!
Then they tried telling me that there was no replacement, so i said they owe me $230.00 for selling me an un-merchantable product, that i now cannot use, ( against the LAW )
Suprise suprise ,,, they then discovered that there was an amendment to the fitting proceedures if a person has a Winch cradle.. suprise suprise
I arrived there to discover that 1 of the headlight covers has already cracked ( from pick-up ) yesterday because of the pressure that is against the whole upper side of the Bar.
                            Morons they are

Spoke to my Toyota dealer about this recall and was told that unless I receive a letter then I can assume that there is no problem with my particular vehicle. Service manager got very defensive when I mentioned some of the information gleaned from P.P. about this topic! Well I've received no letter as yet and judging from some of the feedback here with regard to driving lights, winches etc. maybe I'd be better off just leaving it, I've driven plenty of corrugation with no issues as yet.

The problem with that BS you have been told is that if a vehicle is sold outside of a Toyota Dealership then you would probably never see the letter as they will not update their records of ownership.
