Re: Brown Davis Bash Plate BULK ORDER For SA

I have the "genuine Toyota alloy bendy bar" as you put it so would be interested in pricing for all three either individually or as a set.
As for another 40kgs in the front I can see this leading to the suspension upgrade that I keep putting off as well.

    Cheers

As a matter of interest, the TJM sump guard sits a littl higher the the Brown Davis as it has
a little cutout for the front diff. It also goes back further than the brown davis to protect the gear box
but does not goes as far forward as the Brown Davis.

What I did was to purchase the Brown Davis front guard to protect the radiator, the Brown Davis
sump gaurd to protect from the radiator back, but cut it short to fit in front of the TJM cover.
Then installed the TJM to cover the rest.

Expensive but fully protected from the bull bar to the transfer case.

      Cheers

I just bought one for my 120, and it was the "newer model" which costs slightly more that it used to - ended up being $426. Nice and solid, compared to original tinny thing! Very easy to fit - just rest it on a cardboard box and lean it until you can bolt up the front end, then lift it and secure rear.

I am in for the plate and last bit. No need for the very first bit because I have an ARB bar.

Price for both bits required first and I strongly suggest we get a price from my brother in law first. He has pulled rabbits out of hats already for other members!!

                      I will call him tomorrow.

                      Cheers

                        Rob,
Why haven't you told us all about your contact about 20 mods back?! Could have saved me a fortune!
Look forward to seeing what he can do.

If it is any consolation I have failed to use him for the last $10k plus of mods, just came up in a conversation on a Robe trip

                            Hey,

I would be interested too, but would like to know the price before i commit defiantly. I take it that these will fit the 120 petrol. Im up in Darwin so if delivery up here is easy to arrange without bumping up the price for everyone that would be cool. I also have contacts in Adelaide to be able to arrange transport myself otherwise.

                            Cheers

Re: Brown Davis Bash Plate BULK ORDER For SA

I've had a quick discussion with switched and am now looking into fabricating these bashplates locally to see if there is any savings to be made.

I've made enquiries into material costs and sizing and have so far concluded the following:
                              • 1. Fabricator prefers to work with max 3mm plain aluminium due to being able to punch out the shape in-house rather than having to send it out.
                                2. Checker plate is not preferred as the flutes messes with the tooling and because it won't sit flat, can cause discrepancies.
                                3. I've gone for aluminium instead of steel due to the extra cost in zinc plating then powder coating steel. The aluminium will be left natural.
                                4. Due to the width of the bashplate and the standard sheet size, the wings from the Brown Davis design can't be incorporated from the same sheet. If it was, you could only make one bashplate out of a single 1.2x2.4m sheet. If the wings were left out, you can get 2 bashplates out of a sheet. The wings can be added on using the leftover material from the same sheet.

I've had a look at a lot of images on here of other member's bashplates. I think that the mounting points are common with the only variation being the location of the sump plug amongst the 3 different engines. I've got the V6, switched has the D4D. Just need a 1KZ.

Having had a quick look under the car at the transfer case area, there is a huge expanse of space between mounting points. It looks like if the transfer case is to be protected, the bashplate will pretty much have to go all the way back or right across between the chassis rails. So I'll probably leave that one alone for the moment.

The development of the bash plate will take a while, so this may not sit so well with Rob's schedule of having bash plates installed for the Border Track trip in May.

Re: Brown Davis Bash Plate BULK ORDER For SA

If you need a 1kz I have taken off all my protection you can use to get positioning right for holes. Bewarned it is a little mangled though.

I also need to replace my radiator guard to the bullbat as 2 of the bolt holes have ripped throw as well...

Let us know the cost... Might go this route over mr Davis in the end...
