This would be a fun mod to display on the GPS screen?

Many thanks for this excellent forum - a winner.

Talking about the SatNav (being 2003 mine is item no 18002); you might all be interested to know that the manufacturers of these units Fujitsu Ten Eclipse are very obliging in regard to both the supply of parts AND excellent advice from their service area.

Being parked and having sat my 9 month old son in front of the gear stick, somehow he managed to rip the Satnav fascia plate away from the screen and break the bottom section - 'the horror the horror' (apologies to Joseph Conrad).

Anyway Fujitsu have been kind enough to help me identify the correct part numbers through the provision of an exploded diagram and the parts for which they were then quite happy to supply; and the tech area have also assisted me with advice on fitting; eg hit the open button to access two screws to remove the screen and fascia.

I also previously posted about a problem to do with the lack of voice instruction and having not got very far with the dealers, the service area at Fujitsu have easily identified the problem and sent me a step by step guide.

Apparently for the voice to activate during the journey a pulse signal must reach the input of the SatNav and therefore when this does not occur 'she' will only speak those dulcit tones when you are stationary viz '...and the route guidance will start' / 'you have arrived at your destination' / all in demo mode.

I found this to be both competent and superior advice to that of the Toyota dealers. There is a Fujitsu Ten Eclipse website and otherwise they are at 89 Cook Street, Port Melbourne VIC 3207 - tel 03 9646 6004 for sales and 03 9646 6008 for service.

I emailed Fujitsu Ten the other day and sounds like the older 18002 sat nav doesn't support dvd or video input.
Guess I might as well sell the cable on to anyone chasing one.

Drop me a PM if you are interested in it.

          Cheers

            Hi All,

Well I was the lucky person that bought Justo's video input cable. I have just ripped the dash out of my 3 week old Grande and connected the cable and all appears to be good accept I don't know which pin on the back of the headunit I have to earth to get video signal. When I connected the cable the headunit automatically dectected that it was a video input and I could hear the sound but had no picture. I am pretty certain that this is because I have not earthed the headunit to the handbrake (or permanent earth) because I am not 100% sure which pin to earth. It appears my plug has the wires in different places to the adaptor shown earlier in this thread (pictures below).

As you can see my plug has wires on pins 1, 3 & 5 (counting from the left) but the adaptor with the earth wire has no wire on pin 1 but has wires on pins 2, 3 & 5 plus the earth on pin 4.

I can only assume the that plug that I am looking at in my dash is the right one because it is the only one that fits into the back of the headunit and looks like the adaptor in this thread.

Below is a picture of the back of the headunit. I have marked the pin that I am guessing needs to be earthed based on what I see in the adaptor photo. Can anyone give me some more guidance on this. I can afford to risk shorting the headunit if I am wrong.

Last but not least I am thinking of mounting the A/V inputs in the panel below the climate control a/c as indicated in the photo below (for easy access to plug the ipod in). Does anyone have a better suggested location than this?

Just sent you a PM MyPetFly.
Should have all the details you need to get it working.

Last but not least Couldn't you fit the RCA's into the vertical panel under the ashtray behind the centre diff lock button. I figure it would be a little less obvious and would keep the cables down out of the way when you have them plugged in. Just a thought.

                Thanks Justo,

I couldn't help myself this arvo when I had everything apart and I had to do some playing. I took a bit of a gamble and earthed the pin I was guessing was the the one that needed to be earthed to see the picture whilst moving and much to my amazement it was the right one.

I tested it a few times and as soon as I earth this pin the video appears and when I disconnect the earth the picture disappears but the sound keeps playing. Needless to say I now have it permanently earthed.

I read your PM Justo but I didn't need to splice into any of those other wires to get it to work. I really have no idea what they do but I didn't need to touch them to get the video to work whilst in motion.

I was hoping that earthing this pin would also help with disabling the other in-motion security features so I could enter addresses in the GPS and phone numbers into the on-screen keypad whilst driving but not such luck. The inability to use the on-screen keypad whilst driving is driving me absolutely crazy. I check my voicemail dozens of times a day and have it programmed into my speed-dials in the satnav but when I'm moving I can't hit 3 to delete the message, 5 to save the message or 6 to re-dial the number that called me. I have to pick-up my iphone from the centre console, unlock the screen, go to the phone feature and then finally access the keypad. It is a real pain in the arse.

Has anyone worked out how to get around this on the 26028 satnav headunit without having to install a switch on the speed sensor wire? I would pay money for a suitable solution!

Last but not least I thought the same as you Justo. I have mounted the RCA inputs underneath the cigarette lighter and they work perfectly and are well hidden. I've been watching videos off YouTube on the Satnav screen via my iphone and its great. I am going to install a 5v USB socket next to the RCA inputs so I can charge my iphone whilst it plays movies.

I have also bought some 7" DVD headrests off ebay and installed them and they work perfectly (similar to the ones in Mav's thread).

                Cheers

                  Hi MyPetFly,

I have the same issues with the lockout of the unit while moving. The closest thing that I have found to getting around this is on this site. http://www.coastaletech.com/

They don't mention the Prado unit so i'm unsure if it'll work. I'm also really keen to find a solution to this problem and also connect an ipod to the system.

I saw a 200 series with an iPod connection that was able to browse the iPod on screen which i'd like to get in my Prado if possible. Has anyone else heard of this system and how I can get it?

                  Thanks.

                  Jules.

I wish I could say there was some science to me working this out but really it was just trial and error. I'm glad it helped you.

For those of you with the 03/04 Grande, when you found that the video could not be displayed, did the audio work? I'm only interested in the audio part as I only want the sound from my ipod and media player to be pumped through the car stereo. I do not require ipod control.

There was no sound either however I've come across some solutions to that problem and also the video if required. This is one of the units http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=857 I come across and they simply plug in and piggyback at the cd changer plug. It allows you to still use the cd changer and has 3 RCA inputs for whatever devices you want to hook up. You do have to make sure you get the correct harness to suit your changer plug. You can also get plug in units to input video and audio via the navigation dvd player plugs but they are kinda expensive.! I think I would put that money towards upgrading to a good Eclipse DVD/GPS unit.

All you have to do is change the resistor value. I will post the value soon I have to check my car, as I did this mod a while ago. All you do then is to insert 1 wire into the blue 6 pin plug. There will be a red wire with a white stripe in a flat grey 5 pin plug, connect this to the handbrake wire or Ground. Even if you connect it to earth you will loose the video when you drive for safety reasons. Even if you disconnect the speed pulse wire the unit picks up the GPS signal after a couple of mins. then blanks the screen.

                              Thanks

Re: Inputting video into Toyota SatNav 26028

The resister value on the blue 6 pin plug(AUX PLUG) should be changed to 1k ohm. This will activat the video input when the Disc/Aux Button is pressed.

The video signal input on the blue 6 pin plug(AUX PLUG) is in the Top right position if you are looking at the back of the plug (missing pin), and the video Sheild(GND) should be connected to the pin below (bottom right).

Don't forget to earth the red wire with a stripe to get video.
