  • ARB - OME Recommendations

I'm confussed as ever after reading through each page of this post!! Can anybody post what ARB recommend being fitted to the Prado - from lightest duty springs/ shockers combo through to HD combo with the works?

    Comment

    • I can't remember the product numbers but the one we used was the medium duty shocks and coils. I have found them to be excellent and ended up with about a 60mm lift but that was from where it was.

        • I just got these instaled today.

I understand these are the lightest setup in the front (alloy bar - no winch) and the medium coils in the back with the lightest shock for the medium coils.

These are allegedly the heavier shock for the light coils.

OME suspension and delux winch bar fitted today, yet to take measurements but vehicle definately feels firmer and holds the road better than stock on bitumen, had a brief run on some corregated back roads at the back of home town in Barossa feels great compared to stock. Have been asked to bring vehicle back after 500km for once over to check over and to see if there is any excessive sag. Impressed with service and fitment of parts by ARB Gawler. I bought the suspension and bar at the 4Wd show and got great savings over stock pricing. Only time will tell if money well spent but first impessions are great.

A little bit of plastic surgery was booked in today with old Dr ARB. Going to try out the new OME Nitrocharger Sports.

Front will be OME884 Coil Spring with 90000 Strut
Rear will be OME896 Coil Spring with the firm 60005 shock.

Stone guards to keep these protected. Will keep the old gear for just in case.

At the same time having a Deluxe winch bar and spotties fitted. Well I'm actually doing the lights but bar and OME fitted just after ANZAC day. Bring it on

                      Hi Schaffer
Bet you are excited about your latest accessories being fitted, can't wait to hear your feed back on the OME Nitrocharger Sports.
Today I called into ARB at Angle Park to inquire about the Nitrocharger sports for the Prado with the OME spring set.
I told the guy that we carry an Engel fridge and Recovery equipment in the rear on trips and pull the camper trailer loaded with all the gear in to keep the vehicle
as uncluttered as possible, also said that we have the Sovereign bar with IPF'S, an Auxiliary battery, and Compressor fitted up front.

The specs He suggested where, Front: OME885 coils and 90000 strut.
Rear: OME897 coils and 60005 shocks.
                      plus: OME661 stone guards.

My concern is that unladen the ride may be too harsh and may limit flex with this spring set, what are your thoughts on this and what was the information that you based your chosen set up on?
Also if I may be cheeky, What price did you get your suspension for?
Looking forward to seeing some pics. of you Rig lifted and barred up!

                      cheers Troy

I've also been checking into this. I explained my configuration as no real load during the week and big load when we go camping. I also have airbag helpers (Firestone Coilrite) in the rear springs, so I can go a little lighter in the rear, which should keep my weekly driving comfortable.

The dealers I spoke with suggested OME883/90000 (Front) and OME895 (rear springs). One dealer suggested 60004 and another 60005. After asking why, the salesman selling the 60004 said if you prefer a slightly firmer ride, then go with the 60005. Another salesman in the same store said stick with the 60005. Opinions everywhere.

My understanding from the salesmen, is that only if you are carrying a sizeable load weekly, should you choose the OME885 and OME897 springs.

                          Troy,

                          My selection was based on:
                          • OME884 provides additional weight carrying between 50-100kg and since I have a heavy 120Ah battery plus I'm going for a steel winch bar then this fits in nicely. If I had a winch as well, which I could go for, then I would have had the OME885 springs.[/*:m:3mwki4yw]
                          • The 90000 strut was the only strut up front in the sports range for the Prado at the moment[/*:m:3mwki4yw]
                          • OME896 at rear gives additional weight for between 150 - 400 kg. I want to do the Simpson trip and will be carrying a lot. I want to do a lot of trips this year and don't want my arse dragging on the rocks, There is also five in my family so I imagine we will carrying a fair amount and will have a Rhino Rack roof tray filled with gear as well.[/*:m:3mwki4yw]
                          • The 60005 shock is the firmer of the two at sports shocks. I guess this is a gamble. I did find one of the guys at ARB Regency useless as I tried to compare between old shocks (N141, N142 and N202) to see how these match the new ones (60004 and 60005). Wouldn't give any info but then these are new out so maybe he didn't really know. I will be happy with a more sporty ride which I think is what we will get [/*:m:3mwki4yw]

The price I got is very very good and is below retail and show discount price but overall comes in slightly lower than the price the Adelaide Off Road at Stepeny would do. AOR did have some pretty ordinary prices on other things. The quote from AOR went along the lines of:
                          Code:
                          884 Coil x2 $110 $220
                          90000 x2 $220 $440
                          896 Coil x2 $110 $220
                          60005 x2 $140 $280
                          Labour $350 $350
                          OME661 $ 35 $ 35

                          GRAND TOTAL $1545
                                                     =====
I'm pretty happy with what I'm getting.

For your spring selection, based on what you have said I would have thought the OME884 up front since you didn't list a winch and air compressors don't really effect the weight that dramatically. At the rear you have springs that are designed for a constant load of 400kg. When you don't have that sort of weight then compression will be very limited and the ride hard as.

The rear springs are setup as:
                          OME895 - Upto 150kg Additional load
                          OME896 - Between 150 - 400kg additional load
                          OME897 - Constant 400kg load

Have a look in the thread OME Component Info to see what is what with the coil springs, struts and shocks. There is also a summary in there that I posted on various Users OME suspension Config along with accessories which might give you a better idea of what you should be installing. Have a look at the users with the 897 springs in the rear and see what they carry. Oh, hang on, seems nobody has the 897 springs. Might mean they are a little overkill for most.

That's a great quote! My best is almost +$140 and the worst is +$360 over yours! The only difference for me is that I need some spacers for the airbags (~$60). Me thinks I better sharpen my pencil some more .

I've got my car booked in on tuesday and wednesday to get the Nitrocharger Sports fitted (and dual battery system + snorkel) as a point of comparison I'll be getting fitted:

                              Front
                              OME884 Coils
                              900000 strut
                              Rear
                              OME895 coils
                              600005 shock
                              + OME 661 stone guard

On the front I've currently got an ARB steel bar and the DBS will be going in at the same time, originally they recommended the 883 coils for the front but I didn't really think they'd be up for the weight of the bar and batteries so had it changed to the 884s.
I usually don't carry much of a load around in the back so was a bit unsure of the 600005 shock but I'll see how it goes, I think it will be alright with the 895 coil and considering I barely drive 10kms a day around town I don't think I'll notice it too much and whenever I go away it should be loaded up nicely.

That's an awesome quote schaffer, I couldn't get close to that!

Schaffer thanks for this advice mate.

Personally I believe also that the constant 400 kgs (OME897) would shake the shit out of everything around town with-out the vehicle loaded up.
There has been posts about the removal of the 897 to swap for the 896 on this forum, because of the harsh ride.
Yes I have researched the other OME component and configuration posts, very informative and comprehensive details.

Thanks again for your feed back,
