I wonder if it's something as simple as mis-labelled shocks / springs fitted (though boxes indicate right items)? Anyone know if there's a model no. visible on OME items once installed???

Sunday, the sports shocks have certainly made things a little sharper would be the word i use, certainly not choppy, your front with 884 should be alright as you have an ARB bar, i am not sure, is their different shock set ups, mine are listed as front 90000 rear 60004, what are your part numbers, are they the same.

EDIT: i have just read your post yes shocks are the same?

You two 'may' want to compare tyre pressures and brand too.

A perfectly valid element to consider though alas, I think not a factor in this case:

I'm running stock standard Dunlop Grand Treks (265/65 x 17s) at 33psi. I'd hazard a guess these would be the most ride-friendly tyre for the Prado at a very modest pressure. I'd actually like to be running them around 35 -36 psi and did so for a while after the OME installation but had to drop back for SOME semblance of ride comfort. I also typically have around 60 kg of tools, recovery gear etc. in the back pretty much all of the time. This is all very alarming because I'd like to fit LT ATR type rubber very soon (e.g. BFGs, Bridgies etc.) but I honestly think the ride quality would be intolerable.

Before going back to ARB I've been driving around on different surfaces quite a bit lately & even drove my son in law's Hilux dual cab around for a day for comparison. The Hilux rode significantly better....

I reckon there's definately something going on with the damping characteristics of the OME Sport shockies / struts. The effect is that it almost seems the suspension is over-damped. You can feel the spring trying to do it's job & suddenly (very suddenly) the shockies say "that's enough" & jerk the vehicle back to level. The weird thing is, on some days the ride definately seems smoother, it's almost like the valving in the shockies / struts is harsher some days than others. I wonder if I've got some dodgy valving going on in my particular shockies / struts?

Just to recap: I have experience of other 4WDs & suspension mods & perfectly understand (& have experienced first hand) the compromises often associated with such mods. What I'm experiencing just does not gel with what I'm hearing from others on this site.

                Sunday.

The Sport shocks do "feel" sportier.
Maybe you could see if you can try some Nitrochargers, N202's?

Thats an excellent price, I received a PM telling me the list price was $255 and $170.

I had a look on my invoice as well and I've got almost the same price ($208.18 for the Struts and $136.36 for the Shocks) BUT that is not the true price since all of the items listed on the invoice are ex GST so add 10% to get the true value. At the end of the invoice is a Subtotal followed by GST. So Mick, that would make them about the same as the prices I sent you the other day. The prices I had where influenced by the Caravan and Camping Show last year but given to me later but using the show discount and the help of a friend .

Thought I'd post an update on my experiences of my recent OME / Firstone airbag installation (previous posts on this & a "My Build" thread refer). Basically, after allowing a bit more settling in time & experimentation with airbag pressures things have settled in quite well now. Here's a link to my update outlining my findings on the "My Build" thread:

Recently decided to get an OME upgrade, for my up comming adventure.
The promlem is the different weight variations that are the reason for some much needed advice. ( from some Knowlegable pp People )
Ill try to give my delemour..
These are my accurate weight calculations.
AROUND TOWN front weight is 95 KGs Rear IS 201 KGS

SEMI LOADED TRAVELLING front weght is 95 KGS Rear is 376 Kgs

TOWING LOADED TRAVELLING front weight is 95kgs Rear is 664 kgs
The local Arb store recommendation is as follows
                                Front springs 884s/ struts 90000
Rear springs 896s / shocks 60005 with poly Air bags for when i am fully laden.
My concern is that with the 896s and Air bags ( at 5 psi ) is that it may be too ridged around town ( which is approx 50 percent of the time ) remembering that my around town weight is 201 kgs.
Should i go with the 896s only ( and forget the bags ) and hope for the best when fully laden and towing..... OR
go with 895s with the bags ( and hope the rear end holds up ) remembering my full towing weight is 664 kgs.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
                                Alan
