  • General Grabbers A/T2

Has anybody heard any reports on the General Grabber A/T's tyres as they come in 265/65/17 and look to have an aggresive tyre pattern. My tyre dealer is trying to talk me into them as he is having trouble getting 694's as they short supply at the moment.

Haven't heard much at all other than i think they come from the continental garage somehow( big in europe), but i could be wrong.

You could always be the test dummy!!!!!!!

PS how much were you quoted.

I had a look at them recently, but didn't want to be the test person
They look alright, but I suspect they will be noisier than the 694's especially with the square edge they have. But they will probably work better in muddy conditions. They seem to have a very thick and strong sidewall as well, so probably would be good in the desert as well
I was quoted $290 without any haggling

They are brought in to Australia by the same people who bring in the Simex range of Tyres - Dynamic Tyres

For what it's worth guy's, I believe General Tyres are the American part of Continental Tyres?
I know very little about them, in appearance they look a little like Goodrich.

                www.generaltire.com/generator/www/us/en ... lt_en.html

then click on the Grabber AT2 arrow.

They look interesting & obviously give themselves a good wrap up.

                Cheers,

Just to add to the previous posting they did get a good rating in a American tyre (sorry TIRE) survey.

                  www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/su ... &type=ORAT

                  Food for more thought :?:

                  Once again cheers,

They look good - I wonder how good they are in real life?

I also wonder when the other tyre manufacturers are going to get of their butts and make a wider range of tyres in the 120's size. Cooper? BFG? There's very little available in this size.

                    Drew.

$310 sounds pretty high, they would want to be good. I got my Coopers for that price in Broome, where I knew I was not getting a bargain

A friend at work put me in touch with a guy who had just come back from a 10000 km outback trip in a patrol and could not fault the grabbers. His mate who was using cooper st's had alot of chipping but the grabbers looked almost untouched, nobody sufferd any puntures. On the subject of road noise he thought they were quieter than the ST's he ran before changing to the Grabbers.
So after this chat I placed the order for 5 Grabbers 265/65/17 ended up paying $285 and got $120 for the spare unused Gandtreker.
The best thing about these tyres is that I will not have any problems with my insurance company or Mr Toyota.

                          Yoyo,
                          "Congradulations"
As you have taken the plunge & have shod you Prado with the General Grabber AT's, you have elected yourself to report back on their performance from time to time. :P

I must admit they do look the goods as a AT tyre.
Their price was a bit more respectable.

                          Cheers,

                            yoyo,

What's the warranty in Australia? I notice the seppo website talks up their warranty.

Fazza is correct the General is a US based tyre company, although I am not sure about the "Continental" tie up. Years ago General were real big into using Kevlar instead of nylon cord in the construction of their tyres. It would be interesting to see what these grabbers are made of.
