Yep they are the LT version.

Moorabbin seems like a long way to go for tyres.....(kidding)

I guess we just get used to paying a bit more in WA.

I will ring a few more dealers and see what they can do.

    Cheers

Is it advisable to get the LT construction? LT construction has a load limit rating of 121 (1400kg) and non LT is 112 (1100kg).

Just got quoted $75 less per tyre for non LT.

All my research and belief is that the LT tyres are the better 4x4 selection. More tread and stronger side walls. However a harder ride on the black top. The major advantage is the extra load capacity and less chance of a stake in the side wall. Unfortunately Cooper do not do a LT in the 265/60/18 which I require for the 150 kaka. The AT3 in this size are passenger construction. Still the same pattern but you have a softer ride on black top and less k's. Tha geolanders are only passenger as well but they have a commitment to replace the tyre if you get sidewall damage in the first 12 months and then a pro rats after that. I'm going with geolanders.

Well got the AT3 fitted yesterday 265/65/17 drive nicely and road noise doesnt seem any different from the Grandtreks.

Man they have a deep tread.

          $369 per tyre fitted/balanced.

          Cheers

              Hi James,

I have ordered my 150 with the same tyres, did you consider going up to the 265/70/17's?

At the moment I have it will be delivered with the same size as yours however I am thinking about going slightly bigger. The two concerns are whether the larger size is legal and whether the plastic cover will still fit.

              Cheers

                    Hi Dave

I considered the 70 profile, but with not being able to fit the rear wheel cover, and having to replace all 5 tyres in one hit, i stuck with the standard size 65 profile.

I think the legality of it is dependant on which state you are in. From reading on here it seems like in QLD there is an issue in going up to the 70 profile.

I have only done a few km but still very happy with the tyres.

                    Cheers

My 150 is booked in at Gliddon's Tyre Power in East Perth, $375 per 265/70R17 (LT) tyre fitted and balanced. From the accounts I have read the 265/70R17 DOES fit under the rear cover but if it doesn't that's not the end of the world.

VSB 14 has already been adopted by ACT, WA and Victoria where you can go up to 50mm in tyre diameter (provided you're overall vehicle lift off the ground is no more than 50mm from factory) so provided you don't have more than a 37.5mm body or suspension lift going from the 65 to 70 profile is fine. In addition, in Victoria you have the option to increase tyre diameter up to 50mm and suspension up to 50mm (a total lift of 75mm) provided the suspension kit is rated to do so.

                        ^^^^^^

Thanks for the information, it is interesting that the total lift can't be great than 50mm because as soon as you have a 2in lift kit and 70 profile tyres you are over.

When do you have your tyres fitted because I am interested to see whether the cover will still fit?

                        Cheers

That's why I'm putting the tyres on first and then will get the biggest legal lift I can later (~40mm) for a total lift of around 50mm. There must be a little bit of wiggle room because a 265/70R17 BFG KM2 has an OD of 810mm while the 265/70R17 Cooper AT/3 has an OD of 803mm making a difference of 3.5mm in radius between the two tyres. The tyre placard on the Prado specifies a tyre profile, not a maximum diameter so presumably you can go at least 20mm larger than the biggest available 265/65R17 tyre (~780mm) and be fine with a 40mm lift. Otherwise, it's only going to be an issue if the cops decide to pull you over, get out the calipers and decide to ping you for being a couple mil over.

March 8th (I expect I will get the tread on the Grandtreks down below 3mm over the long weekend) so if you can wait till then will let you know. Just realized, I have 150 so yeah they might not fit under the 120 cover.

No worries, I will also be putting them on a 150. I spoke to a tyre supplier and their only suggestion was to fit the tyres then see whether the cover would fit....great help.

The 150 is due for deliver on the 31st Mar so I have a bit of time before the tyres will be fitted as part of the lease. As you say with height difference it very close, my only concern is whether my insurance will continue to cover me if the worst happens.

I have fit the Cooper AT/3s (on the 150) and so far so good. The spares fit under the cover but allegedly the bolt is too short to hold the cover on (I have yet to verify this myself) so I may need to obtain a longer one. There is no rubbing even at full lock and the ride is just as quiet as with the factory Dunlops. So far, I've only run about 100 kms, all on dry road, and the grip feels great.

                                Hi Lorenzo,

Where did you get that price from?

I am now looking at these AT3's instead of MT ATZ 5 Rib, as the AT3's have a more open tread pattern than the MT's
