Was he towing or had been towing a work trailer? The LHR is the typical tyre to go from towing.

Unfortunately I don't have the batch number but I do know it wasn't a re-tread or a grey import. I have seen re-treads do this before but never a tyre bought from new.

I know someone with ST/Maxx who is also very happy after giving them a good thrashing in the bush.

The ST model has been around for a long time, and I've heard plenty of bad stories for them... just wonder if Coopers has actually taken notice and improved their recent products.
I've had Coopers AT3's on for 25K now and have no problems, not even any punctures. This includes 20K's towing a camper trailer up through the centre and across to WA, including a few bad roads. So far no dramas at all, in fact, I'm very pleased with them. FYI.

That recall looks like it is for the US market , the tyre in the original post looks like the ST tread pattern and it is definitely an old tyre, when i say old probably over 5 years, people sometimes get confused with a tyre that has lots of tread and think its new , its not , once its made its starts deteriorating , doesn't matter what brand , that's why the production date on the side is so important and it is a good idea to check it on you own tyres - even when you buy them !!
I have just retired from owning a Tyrepower store in the Midwest and would come across this type of delamination all the time
There have been very few instances of faulty manufacturing , maybe 2 or 3 in the last 15 years that i came across

Well..... I'm fitting Bridgestone "MY02 Sporty Style" tyres to the Honda tomorrow. FFS??!!
(I think) I'm disappointed they don't come with raised white lettering.

But... what is it with Cooper tires???? Either really really good reviews and happy owners, or really really bad and pissed off owners.

In my experience the problem with the Coopers is the salesman has only been looking at a sale not what the driver is using them for
i.e , selling cooper stt's for somebody's shopping trolley instead of a HT or an AT3, one of the worst i saw was Zeons fitted to a Cruiser that was towing across our country , well they wore out in 20K , not the tyres fault it isn't made for that

hi all, about the cooper st got a new set put on 12 months ago, when the tyre fitter was balancing the new one up he started to put a 140gms to 180 of weight on the rim , when i told him thats to much weight his words where dont blame me blame coopers as the aussie dollers to strong they send there not so perfect tyres over , one tyre was so bad i refused to pay until they got a full set of replacements keep in mind i had 2 sets no balance probelm on other 4x4, so do i get a new set, i think not. at the moment the car aways has to get a wheel balance/rotation every service or the vibraion is unreal next tyre will be jap-andy

I too have noticed an unusual amount of lead on my Cooper's too (ST Maxx). I've had four replaced free of charge after "stock folding issue". Basically side wall rubber separating from bead rubber resulting in radial splits around bead. Dealer said they were still safe just cosmetic! Too right, they looked shit house I said. Had three replaced initially, then one of those did the same, also replaced. Haven't had any issues since, just excessive balance weight, something I didn't think would be needed for such an expensive tire. ( My old Bighorns needed half as much!) I'm really happy now, done plenty of k's on different terrain, well outperform the Bighorn, but to be fair, that's comparing apples with........ turds.

                            Cheers,

When I was wanting to buy new tyres a few years back I wanted Cooper STT's. I went to a few tyre retailers shopping around and two of them (they said the identical thing to one another) said they used to sell Coopers, a lot of them, but got sick of being caught in the middle with no support from Coopers for genuine warranty claims so they stopped ordering them in. Pretty interesting really. At the time Goodyear (through a different dealer altogether) were offering a guarantee for your purchase for damage done to your tyres on & off-road no matter the damage done so long as it wasn't repairable with a simple patch. If you staked a tyre through the sidewall, take it back and you only pay the percentage difference in the tread that has been used. I thought that was pretty good so bought them. Cooper would never do that.

I had the same thing happen to me on a set of ATR's @ 30K..........i was told no warranty as it was thought to be an under inflation issue and not faulty manufacturing....pigs ass.......also the side wall had perished that badly that you could dig chunks out with your thumbnail.

Needless to say i won't buy them again, also that particular dealer does not sell them anymore aswell.
