  • Dreamer..... Tell'em their dreaming! (Sorry couldn't resist)

Yeah probably not worth the 3000km drive, but sounds like $338ea is not bad considering it includes North Qld taxes.

    • Final question I promise. So if I have to fit a spacer for the spare tyre, am I wrong in assuming just a decent piece of timber, at least 20mm, would do the trick for now?

I'd like to use amts spacer plus light/uhf pole set up but in the mean time I need to get these tyre while I wait for th spacer to arrive.

      • I've seen people on here use those 10mm thick chopping boards cut to size and longer bolts. Timber wouldnt be any good due to moisture and rot

        • Yeah that's the idea for now. I'll be ordering an air compressor/fuel filter mount from amts soon so figured I'd order the spacer/jut mount at the same time.

          • So I decided to go with 265/70/17 KO2's, getting them fitted tomorrow.

Ended up with a price of $337/tyre F&B etc with free rotations, re-balances and puncture repair for the life of the tyre.

Buying them through the business so less the GST I'm pretty happy.

If anyone else in FNQ is looking for this great price speak to Tuff Tyres.

I'll comment on their service tomorrow.

            • Do the 265,65 R17's still have a 3 ply side wall or have BFG dropped down to a 2 ply?

              • Ok, can definitely recommend Tuff Tyres. Service was great!

Pretty happy with the tyres, they feel very "bitey" and the whole car feels more agile, but that all new shoes I guess. To put this one to bed for me or anyone else who might come across this thread, the change up to 265/70/R17 has resulted in roughly 15mm of lift. This is from an admittedly fairly bald (but still legal) tyre to a brand new one.

                Rear Old:

                Rear New:

Now what is interesting, is that I did not need a spacer for the rear tyre. I actually chose not to say anything to the shop about it, but ensured that I took a few ropes to tie it down on the roof racks if I needed to. Well when I came back to collect the car, there was no mention of any trouble mounting the spare, that was when I asked if they had any trouble or if it needed some washers or anything but it didn't.

the tyre is close to the door there is no doubt, but it is not making contact anywhere, and, the rear wiper does not make contact, works perfectly, and can be swung away just like normal (albeit with far less room)

Is this something I should be worried about? I have checked the bolts on the spare and they are tight, we have spent the weekend off road and the spare didn't fall off, so that is a good thing, right?

Anyway, very happy camper with this purchase, I do hope that I get a good 80,000klms out of these ones like the last lot.

Next project, get amts bracket and arb air compressor installed with the air outlet in the rear.

                    • They look good. I thought mine didn't need a spacer either, but after a while the tyre rubbed off a little paint, so I went for AMTS spacer.

Maybe the lettering? On my 120 I thought I had clearance for the 275s only to find the words backwards in the paint.

                          • Contact was with the black plastic backing surround. That surround was then pushed onto the paint and rubbed when on corrugations.

I had actually thought that was the only place I was worried about corigator.

                              • Best you remove that plastic backing. Mine rubbed on the paint even with the standard Grandtreks. If you ever want to mount a rear tyre bag, a spacer is a good idea.
