It's BS, a towbar or any other mechanical part can be fitted at any time,
Perhaps they're trying to save you some time and a few bucks by fitting it whilst it's in for a service anyway?

Hi, can anyone confirm that the OEM towbar can only be fitted after the vehicle has clocked 1000km? We bought a 150 today and hoping to take delivery on next Friday. (The vehicle is a floor stock with a September 2011 build, hence we can have it soon rather than later.) However we were told the tow bar can only fitted during the 1000km service. Is this true? I'm new to this forum so please excused my ignorance for not using the search button.

Yeah i went with the Toyota bar after reading about the HR bar. It pays to get a few quotes too. Rang two Toyota dealers with 50km of each other and there was $200 difference in price. Ended up paying $850 installedOriginally posted by footoo View PostI tend to agree with Wooley, would not trust the HR.
Definately the Wynnum or Toyota bars are the better ones. I went with the Toyota bar only because it was a bit cheaper than getting a Wynnum bar down to Melb.

The HR bar for the 150 is like the Toyota bar for the 120 (I think), it just bolts to the cross member.Originally posted by amts View PostI haven't seen an HR towbar on a 150 but on the 120, they are boltes to the cross member and the chassis rails. Not sure why they changed that on the 150.
I have seen a Toyota towbar on the 150 and to my eyes, it looks very, very strong with many mounting points on the chassis and heavy gauge steel used.

Can those of you who have a tow bar installed post a picture in this thread? It would be good to have a side by side visual of Genuine Toyota and other brands.

Well I was all set to get a HR towbar but now I don't know. Does anyone else think the same. I wouldn't ever be towing that much weight. When I ordered the car Toyota wanted $970 for there bar plus 33% luxury tax on top of that. So I got a quote elsewhere for a HR and they wouldn't budge on there price.

From what I understand the towbars are exactly the same... The only difference being which sticker they put on for you.Originally posted by pjtaylor3 View PostI was told the HR towbar is rated for 3000kg where the toyota is only 2500kg. Do they use a different bar on the short wheel base Prado because I think they are allowed to tow 3000kg.
To be honest... I wouldn't trust the HR towbar with 3000kg on it... It's mounting is atrocious.
