Powder coat is a bit porous. Hence I zinc plate my stuff first before powder coating to ensure longevity. The zinc plating process also removes all the residue from the material.

Leo at Wynnum Towbars has been doing my towbars for 20 years, they are a shining example of a family business run from the same premises thyat care about quality, reputation and their customers, if all Australian small business took this mantra on then we would still have a thriving manufacturing base, compliments to Leo.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

PS My towbar was his first 150 bar.

Another thanks to Wynnum towbars from me. Very neat fit, well tucked up but still offering some bumper protection. It is very securely mounted, though does require holes to be drilled in the chassis rails. Much better than the genuine Toyota product IMHO. Leo is great to deal with & nothing is too hard. I also ordered a custom second tongue for $50 such that my bike rack would clear the spare tyre. When I first inquired on the phone I asked if they had had any reports of the hitch anti rattle bottle getting damaged when bottoming out (as it is right on the bottom) & he said they had received one. Without even asking, my bar arrived with a strong shield welded around the bolt. Quality of the paint finish is the only slight complaint I had (is just dipped with no specific primer) and very easily chips off, though Leo commented that Reece have also had problems with water getting under their powder coat finish through small cracks and then causing rust.

He gave me a discount as I had to touch up the paint & in the end the bar + second tongue cost $500 shipped to Canberra.

    Very happy customer.

    David.

Still reckon the Toyota one in my shed's the best value around! Hardly used, fitted Kaymar bar!

I have ordered the same for the new VX John75. I really like the work done on my brothers rig.

There's been a lot said on this issue so I'll just add by advising what I had installed on my 2012 GX. Decided against the genuine towbar and went with Hayman Reece bar as I tow a caravan with a HR weight distribution setup. The towbar has the HR part number of 02910RW and got towbar, hitch, wiring harness and brake controller all installed at Southern Towbars at Edwardstown in Adelaide. I would recommend these people for their advice and efficient service. There is another HR towbar for 150 series - part number 02872RW. This bar is about 50mm forward of the above bar I chose - uses same bolt holes. The square tubing hitch receiver is about 25mm behind the line of the rear bumper (mine sticks out further past the line of the rear bumper) so that particular towbar would appear to suit people who do more off-road work and are concerned about the overhang of the towbar. As with most things it is largely up to personal preference.

Had the new HR bar fitted and it's a lot more substantial than my old one, must weigh about 4-5 x as much. Only problem is a lack of lugs to fit plugs.

Not much value when you 5 door Prado can only tow 2.5 tonne. They are all 3 tonne for the 3 door.

I used Arrow Towbars in Brisbane as they were the same price to come to my house instead of me having to go in.

If your looking for a quality towbar call Wynnum Towbars, Leo the owner has been doing this for 30 years and I haven't ever heard a bad report.

Just fitted my HR bar and Toyota wiring loom. Bar is very very good. 2 bolts on each side, 2 on the back of the centre plate, 4 on the front of the centre plate and two underneath the centre plate. No cutting of the bumper, I didn't need to change the exhaust bracket and have had no clucking at all. Tounges a bit closer in but that doesn't worry me. It looks great.

The Toyota bars look ugly as after seeing the HR one. Very happy.

No cutting required. When they mounted mine they removed the rear hitch point for towing so if you want to keep that ask for it.
