I have a GX which comes with no roof bars, got a 3 bar set of heavy duty toyota racks. they were easy to install and the bars are easily removed from the roof mountings for when I need to put it in the garage. They are 100kg rated and were cheaper than the whispa bars from supa cheapComment

Ordered a sunseeker mark 2, (the cheaper and smaller foxwing) the thing I like about them is you can add extra stuff to them. Just out of interest, as I am looking to get either the rhino mesh basket or platform, was it the basket that needed welding and if so, what brought that about? I am replacing one that I bought from super cheap, prorack I think, that started rusting at the welds within a few days. Also, does the rhino mesh basket make much wind noise? I have the Rhino sports bars that I leave on and then mount shovel holders as required for day trips and any long trips use a Rola roof basket. This has done two Simpson Desert crossings and two outback NSW/Flinders Ranges trips around 20'000ks and just needed a couple of the bars spot welded, no dramas.
This photo (Pradopoint 2011GTG) shows the shovel, Oz Tent, roofbag and Foxwing all mounted, this is the setup for the long trips we do.

Mesh baskets will make noise due to the number of east-west wires to make the mesh. the north-south planks on the Pioneer, alloy tray or the superseded platform rack will be less noisy. And they don't rust. but there won't be that many tie down points which is what causes the powder coating to chip off and rust to start.Comment

Just picked up an alloy tracklander 1.8 rack, bolts straight to the roof, looks flash will fit the swags but jebus it's a bit noisy!Comment

With my tracklander it makes a slight wind noise at about 80k's, after that you can't really notice it. With the rooftop tent on it doesn't seem to make any noise at all.Comment
