Just installed my Grande 10000lbs this morning. all pretty straight forward although all bolts needed shortening. I ended up mounting the control box right next to the winch on the gearbox side, just needed to drill 2x 8mm holes for mounting. all cables are long enough in this configuration and the control box is accessible from the slot next to the fairlead opening. only thing i did as insurance is re-seal the control box to prevent water ingress.

May I ask what bar you mounted your Grande on? I looked at mounting the control box next to the gear box but the cables looked liked they were going to be too short. Any chance of a pic or two?

While you're at it can you measure how wide the winch is? Not sure if the 10,000lb is as wide as the 12,000lb; that model isn't listed on the website.

In the instruction manual the dimensions of the 12000 and 10000 are the same. 537x160x218.

Picked up a set of Stanfred 4WD car ramps off feebay, should make working under the front or rear a bit easier. They're heavy buggers!

Also got the brother in law to cut the stupid locator hooks off the front of the factory engine cover/bash plate so that the plate can be removed/re-installed without being on a jack or hoist. Admittedly that makes the plate a bit more fiddly to re-install but with the aid of the bottle jack to help support the weight it's not too hard to do. This is all so we can get the TJM radiator bash plate off when working on the underside of the bar.

I only had the hooks parts off the front brackets cut off, have to leave the rest of the bracket (the bits with the holes through them that are welded to the bash plate) on or you'd have nothing to support the front of it. Forgot to take a pic before we put it back on, will get one when next we tackle the winch install. I would have left the plate off till then but was getting a bit nervous about all the exposed bits under there. It goes in for a service on Friday so didn't want Toyota using the missing plate to "find" an expensive repair to whack on the bill.

Here are those pics for you. I apologize for the quality (old phone and night time) but you should get the idea.

Thanks Greenie, they are fine. I see you managed to get the box mounted front on, it was looking like the cables weren't going to reach the motor when we did our test fit. There's not enough room next to the motor on the left side as the bar support bracket gets in the way.

OK, some progress made on the winch install at the Vic Tech Day today. The winch and hawse fairlead are mounted and the plan is to mount the control box next to the clutch control like Greenie has done. The cables are just a bit too short for comfort so I have to get them lengthened.

Having the use of a hoist today sure made life easier!

I found a thread where the front camera had been relocated in the Rig Build forum, it's an ARB bar but perhaps I could do something like this :-

                            http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...kadu-150/page2

Doing this would negate the need to lengthen the winch control box cables as the box could be mounted on top of the bar between the spots. It would probably mean lengthening the front camera cables though, there isn't that much play in them.

                            Thoughts?

Probably just as much work, if not more, involved in extending the camera cables IMO. might offer you a better view from camera though.

That's one of the main advantages. The control box would be higher up too, less chance of water entering it. Have also considered mounting it in the engine bay but then you have to open the bonnet to plug in the controller. I'll have a bit of a play with the camera to work out how much I might gain by moving it, won't do it if there's not much difference.
