Yep it's been a while since I posted an update in here, don't ask LOL.
While in the process of sealing up my winch control box today I had planned to spray some battery protector/sealant on the solenoid to protect it against corrosion, the stuff I have is made by Permatex. I note on the can it says not to use it near heat, sparks, or open flame. My limited knowledge of solenoids tells me they do get hot so I'm guessing the spray I have might not be a good solution then? Or are they just referring to the actual application process and it will be safe once it is dry?
Went back over that thread on the Patrol forum I linked to earlier and someone mentioned using battery protectant, that's why I bought it. I've read of others using circuit board clear, wondering if that would work better?
