  • Yep it's been a while since I posted an update in here, don't ask LOL.

While in the process of sealing up my winch control box today I had planned to spray some battery protector/sealant on the solenoid to protect it against corrosion, the stuff I have is made by Permatex. I note on the can it says not to use it near heat, sparks, or open flame. My limited knowledge of solenoids tells me they do get hot so I'm guessing the spray I have might not be a good solution then? Or are they just referring to the actual application process and it will be safe once it is dry?

Went back over that thread on the Patrol forum I linked to earlier and someone mentioned using battery protectant, that's why I bought it. I've read of others using circuit board clear, wondering if that would work better?

    • I'm getting a T13 Bullbar in a few weeks and was going to install a winch myself in a year or so. This thread makes me think twice about waiting!

Have you got it installed yet?

      • Yes the winch is installed and working now, got the control box wired up last Friday. I was going to put up a summary of the installation process with pics when I get a chance, just have to sort out all the pics first. Nothing in the process requires you to remove the bar, everything was accessible just by removing the grille and perhaps the wing plates on the underside of the bar.

        • Looking forward to the write-up. I think i'll be doing this exact same mod sometime soon (without the camera complications), so it should be useful.
