  • Recovery points on Prado 150 fitted with genuine Toyota bull bar?

Recently purchased my Prado 150 (2017) - second hand, low mileage and fitted with genuine tow bar and bull bar. Now looking to fit recovery points on the front of the vehicle but it seems its impossible with the Toyota bull bar fitted? Both ARB and TJM say you cant do it as the necessary holes are consumed or covered by the bullbar. Seems staggering that Toyota would make a great 4WD that cant be recovered if its fitted with their bull bar!! Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got an ARB bar. Not sure about the Toyota bar. Can you post some photos of where the bar mounts to the chassis so we understand the issue?
On the ARB bar, I removed two of the bolts and installed the recovery points using these mounting holes with the longer bolts supplied with the recovery points. Does that not work with the Toyota bar?

I believe that ARB actually make the "genuine" bars for Toyota so seems surprising that you can't fit recovery points.
With the ARB recovery points they need to R&R the bar to fit them perhaps it is the same with the Toyota genuine bar.

Thanks Prado the 2nd - I attach a couple of photos - one showing the bar and the other showing where the bar attaches to the chasis

Hi RC57. Sorry for the delay, haven't checked the forum for a couple of days.

EDIT: After posting the information below, I have just noticed that the recovery points say THEY WILL NOT fit the 2017 model with Genuine bullbar.. However, if you check this series of posts, it looks like they DO FIT. You just need to pack out the rear mounting point as per my instructions below. There are better photos in the other post though:

I don't think you need to remove the bar. I don't have a photo of my drivers side recovery point. My photo is of the passenger side (ie: mirror image) but from memory both sides were near identical. I am fairly sure you will find that the front mounting point that you need is the lower bolt on your Toyota bar (see image below). That hole is threaded so you can just remove the bolt. Do one side at a time so the bullbar doesn't move. Replace this bolt with the longer ones supplied with your recovery point.

The 2nd mounting hole is further back on the chassis rail, which is not shown on your photo, but will be just off your photo at the top left. I've tried to indicate this in my diagram. This hole is not threaded, so you will need to use the "nut on the wire" which comes with the recovery points. You feed the nut through the slot which is a little further back on the chassis rail (which you can see in my photo just to the right of the rear bolt).

One issue you will probably encounter, however, is the recovery point won't sit flush. This is because the front section sits on top of your bullbar mount. I encountered this issue with my brother's FJ Cruiser with factory nudge bar. My solution was to go down to Bunnings and buy a few (for each side) of these square washers which I used to pack-out the rear mounting point.

By the way, I purchased these recover points: https://www.roadrunneroffroad.com.au...prado-150-pair

Always best to use both for the recovery with a bridle strap between them. This kit contains everything you need. https://www.roadrunneroffroad.com.au...very-point-kit

Chose my username when I bought my 2nd Prado. Seemed like a funny name at the time. Now on my third Prado and can't change the username (nor the bad humour).
