I was having a good chat to someone about the cracks yesterday and they made a interesting comment that toyota sheet metal was one of the thicker ones around and he knows this from the fitting snorkels. Normally cracks can be caused by other things moving around ie the battery causing undue stress. Some food for thought.Last edited by Hutch; 18-08-2012, 10:04 AM.

I have the last of the 120 Series Prado being 2009 model. I have a deluxe ARB bull bar, Mako winch and a D27F optima aux battery, 275/65/17 tyres and raised 2in. I have been on rough roads, high speeds etc etc and I have no visible cracks in the guards. I run my tyres at 40 psi on sealed roads and 30 psi on gravel. So touch wood...

Yeah, when I had the bubbling paint on the inserts for the bullbar, I went to Toyota & they looked into it before saying that as TJM fitted it that TJM had to fix it.
Toyota rang TJM & set it all up for me, so when I went to TJM they knew all about the problem. So yes, any problems I go straight to Toyota.

Not that i wish this to happen to you but for anyone that had anything fitted pre delivery by Toyota, you would think that Toyota would be backed into a corner and have to fix any issues since they sold you the car with the mods on it
Food for thought

Hi Rob
I have OME Nitrocharger Sports shockies and springs, medium springs front and back, Firestone Airbags in the rear, ARB Steel winch bar with Avenger Mako TDS 9.5 winch (Dyneema), dual batteries, IPF spotties, UHF aerial, Couplertech, some extra relays and such, Outback Ideas recovery points (1kg each) and MT ATZ 4 rib 265/70/17 tyres.
The only thing to go under the bonnet now is an ARB compressor, so I would probably have as much gear over the front axles as any body else and if you saw the condition of my MT's at 40000kms you would see that they have done some hard yards, let's hope it is an isolated incident and that Toyota do the right thing and repair/replace the panel properly.
Richo.

Hey Richo.....
What sort of accessories do u have on your vehicle??
Bullbar? Winch? Dual Bartteries? Aftermarket Suspension?
I agree with u in regards to all the rocks, etc.... hard to see & miss them all, but still a vehicle should still be able to handle the odd unseen bump &/or dip in the road w/o falling apart....
Just wondering whether they made the body mounts too soft which then allows the body to move more than it should, creating metal fatigue ??

My concern is that we have done the Simpson Desert, Birdsville, Oodnadatta, Strezlecki Tracks and the Flinders Ranges in our 150 all in one trip and I have never looked for cracks. The worst were the Ooodnadatta track and the road from Windorah to Birdsville, I agree if anything it would be the corrigations and rocks half the size of a soccer ball that were just impossible to miss all of them.
Richo.

I don't think too many people will find any problems with their day to day driving.... I reckon this was done from our recent outback trip where we travelled over the usual corrugated outback dirt roads. Even though we went across the simpson desert, I reckon it's more the corrugated dirt roads that has possibly done the damage. I did the usual thing of adjusting the tyre pressures and drove according to the road conditions. Even though I didn't look b4 or directly after our trip, I reckon the trip is more likely the cause..... but in saying that, it's not as if we travelled for for hours on end, day after day on corrugated roads...... ANY make of car that cannot handle these sort of road conditions should not be sold in Australia. They especially should not be advertised as being able to handle those sort of outback conditions like they continually do when advertising new cars.....

That is an odd place for a crack to appear considering there doesn't appear to be any thing sitting on top and that it is away from the mounting holes near it, straight to the garage tonight to have a look.
See ya on the tracks, Richo.
