I've contacted my local dealer and he has searched high and low and there is no mention of the patch.
From the pic, it looks like the dealer may have sourced an inner guard, cut it up and bolted it on. The bolts however will weaken the whole guard if the holes are drilled through the original guard. From an engineering point of view, I don't think the patch is an improvement due to the bolts. Happy to be corrected though.

I have an answer - 0, rung toyotaways and melville, the dealer support line (they gave it to me by accident) and a few other dealers, they all deny having a patch or reinforcement for the skirt, City toyota was the most intresting, the service guy said he would look into it and get back to me and the service manager was the person who replied with the usual speel - "no dealer would do such a thing", the patch in the picture looks more than home made 1 off item considering the machine pressed look and CNC cutting....Originally posted by rob_macca67 View PostInteresting..... Wonder how many Toyota Dealerships will know about this "Patch" ???
anyone else have any luck?

Cheers for that krypto.Originally posted by krypto View PostFrom what I can tell it's only used for cracked guards, which seems to be a very small number of vehicles, so warranty . I'd guess no chance of getting it done just because you want it.
You might be able to buy the patch if you know the part number, which i don't, and get it installed. Doesn't look like a very complicated process other than cleaning umder the guard before installing the patch.

Prado 150 cracked guard patch kit
A quick update for anyone with this problem. Toyota have a patch kit for cracked guards that provides a very neat and permanent fix.
The repair looks at least as strong as the new 150 series guard as it creates a double skin through the whole high stress area. It is my understanding that the cause of the cracks may not be overload as much as sustained vibration, so a good reason to watch tyre pressures on corrugations and to avoid excessively hard after market suspension. I guess that might also be why there is an issue with heavy bull bars as they add to the load and vibration in the front of the vehicle on rough and corrugated surfaces.
Also worth mentioning that the V6 has the battery on the other side to the diesel, and for some reason the drivers side seems less prone to cracking.
Picture below is of the patch kit fitted, it's almost impossible to see as it is like a second skin under the guard. The only give away is the slightly larger hole cut-outs over the existing holes and the extra bolts and nuts around the guard that hold the patch in place.Last edited by krypto; 11-04-2014, 01:54 AM.

Yep, it's that old "features and specifications are subject to change without notice" chestnut.Originally posted by bretthar View PostThirdly when questioned why the design was changed they will say they are always continually improving there cars and over time and model changes they will make improvements.

Here's how I see Toyota handling it. The new model was never advertised as having different or stronger guards so you can't say you bought it expecting it to have them. Secondly they will never admit there was a fault with the old ones. Thirdly when questioned why the design was changed they will say they are always continually improving there cars and over time and model changes they will make improvements.

Surely if you were to be unfortunate enough to have to go to court with the issue now with Toyota changing the design would show that there was an issue with previous design being a fault.... Cheers Steve
