The patch kit is a genuine Toyota part, on my Prado which has it on both sides you can't tell it's there unless you look closely. I'm pretty sure someone posted details of the part numbers but I can't find them. Also looks like my photos are no longer accessible.

Similar to my previous job (doing that kind of analysis on major piece of equipments)[like if the gearbox has the size of your house]

    Hi all,
those of you that have unfortunately suffered the cracked inner guard, did you notice any sound coming from the engine bay area when the vehicle flexed or coming to a stop? I've got an occasional sound, thought it might be this issue but can't see any obvious crack.

    cheers

    Aido

Toyota supplied the fix kit and I paid labour. Welding by a panel beater is not enough. You need the kit installed IMO. Most dealers cannot weld so get a panel beater to weld. One dealer quoted me $600 to have a panel shop weld the crack! Fortunately Toyota recommended another dealer who could weld and did the whole job.

Think I'll reply back to Amayama and ask them to track down the out of stock parts rather than get shafted by Toyota Australia's prices!
