I was looking at it from the point of view that the 150 points I have seen, seem to be designed around fitting an ARB or TJM bar. I have the toyota bar and if the 120 points fit Ok then I don't need the 150 points .... especially if I can't get them locally, and there would be more of a chance of getting the 120 points locally
As for "adjusting" the recovery point or mounting point, I wouldn't dream of risking safety ..... I just wanted to find out what someone had done to get them to fit and then have a look at the safety side of things.

    cheers

I wouldn't set about adjusting (drilling?) any part of the recovery point. Would mess around with the integrity of the point. Don't take risks at the expense of safety. Thats just my opinion though. May I ask why you would want 120 recovery points when 150 ones are available?

    Cheers

Have sent an email to fnb4wd - will let you know as soon as I get a reply.
BTW which points do I go for with a factory fitted toyota alloy bar ? Still go the 150 one with the notch in it or does the 120 fit OK ? I think some people have got the 120 ones to fit with "some adjustment" - how much "adjustment" was required ?

    cheers

Interesting. Most points ive seen at a 4x4 shop have stamps on their recovery points. Don't see why they shouldn't be stamped if they were tested to destruction with the proper safety margin accounted for.

Do let us know what the sellers response is.

    Cheers

Recovery points are much like maxtrax. They cost next to nothing to make but suckers like you and I will pay 10x the price it costs them to make. Haha

Edit: due to recent emails to the reseller fnb4wd, it appears i have been mis-informed. The genuine outback ideas recovery points are not rated. I was lead to believe by others that it was.

You have a point Damien. Richo on page 8 of this thread stated that outback ideas recovery points are rated and stamped. The bay link states that they aren't rated, which leads me to believe that they aren't genuine.

My points are the real Outback Ideas rated points, I waited almost 12 months but when you see the result it waqs well worth it. As said before any good 4WD shop will be able to get these. I hope I don't have to use them . Have a look at the 2011GTG thread at the last recce for some views of the fun we had and not one recovery required.

    Regards, Richo.

Can the "real" Outback Ideas recovery points step forward then ? The ones you linked look exactly like the "Outback Ideas" recovery points fitted by ARB to Richo's wagon, but very different to the ones on Giles' Photo above.
I am glad this is straight forward and not confusing

Edit: the ones Giles have are for a 120 .... oops

Still the Ebay Seller at the end of that link is selling a lot of things labelled "Outback Ideas". I would like to think he couldn't do that unless they were. Complaints would shut down the seller real fast .....

    cheers

After enquiring at my local ARB supplier a week and a half ago and being told they would get onto the supplier and get me a price that day (along with prices for a set of Rhino roof bars) I have still heard nothng back from them. I was happy to buy from them for $150 which seems a pretty standard cost and support their local business.

Seeing as it was too much effort for them, I spent 30 seconds on eBay and came across a guy selling the Outback Ideas recovery points for $120 plus about $12 shipping. I am now waiting for them to arrive... Also waiting on a set of sand grabba mats similarly found on eBay for $130 after a couple of local shops showed no interest in getting a price and getting them in for me... Oh yeah, I am also waiting on my Prado to arrive however I have been told it is getting washed at the local dealership and will be ready at 3pm TODAY!!!
