They asked YOU??? LOL- aren't they the dealers? They should be telling you.

Here's a shot of my 'longer' as-built Sept 2011 model.

You can see some grime has got past the front flaps, onto the leading edge of the steps (this is acceptable in my mind).
You can see the inside of the rear flaps covered in light coloured mud but none has made it onto the bodywork.

This mud was simply collected going over roadworks - not from sustained gravel road or bush travel. That might return a different result perhaps.

    • Got mine replaced last week. The dealer said that Toyota was only replacing them if the vehicle was under warranty. No color matching, only available in black. Thank you for Prado Point or I may have accepted it as is. Cheers.

Mine came standard with the longer flaps so I don't have much to compare it to, but so far they are performing well, I haven't noticed much grime on the quarter panels and we have been experiencing heavy rain over the last few days.

            • Well - I've had a nightmare trying to get them replaced ...two new longer and different rear sets were offered up to my 2009 build today and neither body panel moulding on either set were long enough. It would appear (and from photos posted here) that Aus models had a shorter body panel from the off and hence a slightly different bumper.

Anyways the dealer has now ordered a replacement set using UK part numbers - but I suspect they will be identical to the ones already on the car....

                    • I wasn't aware of the mudflap issue until I spoke to another 150 Prado owner. We were at a petrol station filling up when he noticed the amount of red dirt on my back guard. I mentioned that I heard complaints about how the flaps were short when the vehicles were tested in magazines. He told me that I could ask for the replacements and as I was due to book the car in shortly for a service, I asked them about the flaps. They ordered some for me and I asked why Toyota doesn't "mention" these things to owners. I was told that as it's not a "safety" issue, it's up to owners, but only if you're getting paint chipped off. Hmmm Australian roads, most aren't just city drivers...wow, you'd think it would be a standard replacement. Will see how the fitting goes when they come in sometime in the new year.

                      • Finally got the call today from Southside Toyota, our mud flaps are in and will be installed on Thursday of this week. Fingers crossed they have got the right ones and can fix the damn rattles at the same time...

                        • I don't suppose anyone on this forum is too interested in UK issues regarding these mud flaps - but nevertheless I will plod on for the benefit of the few UK readers (the 150 forum on UK sites may as well be non-existent as there are far, far fewer units on the road in the UK compared to Aus and the like). Despite a DPR with pictures of gravel rash and the like on my car Toyota have responded that it is not an issue in the UK and mine is only the second UK report so they will not act on it. My local 'workshop controller' advised them that a change of the bumper would resolve the issue (as the new mud flaps do not fit because of the underbody panel extension) - Toyota said this change would probably invalidate the warranty as it would no longer be UK spec.

All new 150 Land Cruisers (Prados) in the UK have the new extended mud flaps as standard - but they do not fit my 2009 model. So looks as though I'm stuffed. Frustrating and annoying - but it just shows how many manufacture changes there are - it almost seems from month to month as two lots of extended mud flaps with different body panel extension lengths would not fit!

Because the new longer mud flaps are fitted as standard now its unlikely there will be sufficient DPRs to push Toyota into changing anything for my manufacture date. I suggested that the only other way forward was to put in a warranty claim for paint repairs to the bumper/doors caused by gravel rash because of too short mud flaps..... needless to say its all gone quiet.

I'd be speaking to consumer affairs over there if Toyota are not coming to the party.

The vehicle is a 4wd and even though it's (usually) not an issue over there, it is an issue for you.

The vehicle is not fit for purpose and you'd like them replaced. The fact that Toyota has realised there is an issue in Australia, and has now updated the mudflap in the UK will definitely be on your side.

I'd be pushing for the new mud flaps, if that means they have to replace the bumper... that is not your problem. They'd have to repair and repaint anyway.

                            This information is from http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/wales/...our_rights.htm
Your legal rights when you buy goods
When you buy goods (including goods supplied as part of a service), the law gives you certain rights as a consumer. The law says that the goods must:
*be of satisfactory quality. This means that the goods should be free of any faults, including minor ones. They should be of the quality that a reasonable person would expect given the description, price and any other relevant circumstances. You can take into account the appearance and finish of the goods, and whether there are any defects (including minor ones). You can also take into account whether publicized information about specific features of the goods is accurate, and whether the goods are safe when used properly
*be fit for the purpose. This means that you must be able to use them for the purposes that you would normally expect from this type of product, or any purpose that you have told the seller you want to use them for
*match their description. This means that if there is a verbal or written description of the goods, it must be accurate. And if you choose goods after seeing a sample, your goods must match the sample.
Your rights when things go wrong
If you buy goods from a trader and they are not of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose or don't match their description, the trader will probably have to put things right. It is the trader who is responsible for this, and not the manufacturer. If a trader tells you the manufacturer is responsible, or that you have to make a claim on a manufacturers' guarantee, you do not have to accept this.
Depending on the circumstances, you may have one or more of the following rights:
to get all of your money back
to get some of your money back
                            to get the goods repaired
                            to get the goods replaced
                            to get compensation.

                            • I finally got a call from my Toyota dealer my mudflaps have arrived, its taken about 6 weeks. I think the best approach is to meet them in person, I must have been lucky as they were aware of the issue and no hassle at all.

                              • I broke one of my precious long (factory fitted) mudflaps... Toyota took my VIN, rego, month/year of build, even acknowledged the fact there as two different length mudflaps... and still ordered in a short one.

Which turned out well as I managed to fit the old one back on anyway.
