I don't see the relationship between suspension and tailshaft binding, it may as well have said vehicle has aftermarket trailer plug installed. WTF
I guess this means no new shaft for me.

    Cheers, mmm beer.
Have you raised the vehicle? Even so, if it was a 2in lift this would not exceed your tailshaft angle limits. I would assume the yoke on the shaft wouldn't move much as well. Scare tactics.

    • Yeah thanks Winniliss, The vehicle is about 40mm higher in the rear than standard which has made next to no difference in shaft length. Say the slip joint is 1000mm from the diff centre and its new position is 40mm down, without getting to complicated with the arc, but keep simple with a triangle this would add 0.79mm difference to its length. It would also increase the angle on the shaft by 2.29 degrees.
Hopefully they will have another look next service.
      Cheers.

VeeZeeSS had his Tailshaft replaced, and he has had a OME 2" lift from new delivery.

That blows their theory out the window regarding a lift.

        • Booked the 150 in for 20k service. Reminded them of the clunk at 10k service.
Typical response is they have to build a case to justify the warranty shaft swap.
I said ok - it was there at 7k, 10k service, after I drove it out from 10k service and is still there now. I told em they have to drive it on Tuesday before the service and after the service. If I feel it when I drive out (like 10k service) LOOK OUT!!!
My sales guy was with me and the service rep (serv mgr was out) says they will do the right thing. Will wait and see...

          • update... dropped car off.
service notes had all history on tailshaft clunk.
at bottom of page handwritten note saying "shaft on order - part no. etc..."
            very impressed!
big thanks PP community for all your help!!!

            • Grease nipples

toyota does not pull the shaft out. It is only fed with grease via the 4 grease nipples along the shafts. when you feed grease in to the nipple, you wait for the shaft to move to know its enough grease fed into it via the nipple. i went and visted my mechanic today. i have have my prado less than a year and have done 40,000 km from brand new. the grease needs to be check as soon as you hear the clunk. waiting for a service every 10,000km service is to long. buying your own grease gun might be a good investment.

              Cheers

My shaft was pulled out and all grease stripped and reapplied. This standard procedure prior to them authorising a replacement. I was lucky to get a couple of thousand km's between re-greasing.

                New shaft, all fixed!

And especially for wayne (hulbyw). try Nunawading. they are a good bunch. very helpful. although they had tried re-greasing for a couple of times but when the clunk continued, decided to fix it by replacement. that was recent and thankfully within the warranty, clunk gone. let's see after a few more clicks. had a look under and this is the part number on the new shaft. P3-16-10-10 T037110-60C10. - same number on the service tax invoice. hope this helps. can those who had theirs replaced confirm the same part number? just making sure it's not refurbished or polished or whatever... these things are expensive to manufacture- materials and precise cutting, hardening, tempering and coating process wise. little wonder Toyoda doesn't come to the party early. call your dealer and had them ordered in time for your booking. cheers.
Hi Bert, yes I have the same part number.
                    See below.

                    • Has anyone seen the contents of TNF 59/11 for themselves? I'd like to know what it says before approaching my dealer again.

ETA: Looking around for info on TNF 59/11 (couldn't find any) I came across this post on the Toyota Owner's Club forum :-

                      http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forum...lty-tailshaft/

This guy had the problem from new but I bought the vehicle 2nd-hand. If the previous owner didn't report it then maybe that's why I'm being fobbed off.

                        • Had mine replaced at 30k service. Problem now gone. Grease only fixed if for 5k and then it would come back. Been 10k since replacement and its been perfect.

                          • Local dealer replaced mine after the first service no questions asked, I did send them an email up front advising of the issue and the wide spread reports of the issue inluding pradopoint feedback.
