The clunk seems to settle down as the shaft wears a bit. I was pumping grease in every 5000km. I now only have to do it after water crossings. The burrs on the splines must have worn down and stopped binding. Lithium grease with moly (Valplex M) seems to last longer than non-moly lithium based grease.2019 GXL, Bullbar, UHF, Redarc Brake Controller, Tow Bar, Secondary Fuel Filter

Age and build has no significance, u will know if u have it as when u stop at the lights as an example a bout two seconds after u stop u feel what is like someone giving u a little nudge from behind and a little clunking noise. It is the spline letting go a bit like wind up, if it is happening they generally pump some more grease into the shaft which will fix it. On my 120 it got greased every service which was enough to fix it.
My 150 has the same issue, getting some more grease pumped in Monday.

Time to invest in a good grease gun. I was warned by the service department at SS Toyota to grease the shaft before every outdoor adventure and after water crossings. I give the shaft a squirt on occasion. 45,000 km later - so far so good no 'clunk'.
Must say I do remember this issue with my old HI-Lux's.

Why don't you ask your dealership what they use if you're so worried about it.
My dealership got a truckload of new tail shafts in a fortnight ago to fix the problem anyway, so you might not even have to worry about the grease.
But onc again... Ask your dealership.... I can guarantee you they'll know what grease they use.Lightforce HIDs 240s x 2, 170HIDs x 4, Maxtrax x 4, roof mount lock pins, redarc BCDC 1240, Optima Yellow top, Baintec Volt/AMP meter, internal LED lighting, Drop down table, ARB47lt fridge, Drop slide, Black widow draws, WAECO 240v Converter, Wetseat seat covers, GME UHF aerial, iphone cradel n GME aerial, HEMA GPS, Tunit Chip, Couplertec Rust protection, OME suspention, Lukey performance exhaust, Rhino Black pioneer tray, BFG ATs allround

Might have to get mine checked out next service...
I have noticed the little clunk every now and then when stopped at the lights. Feels like someone have given me a bump up the rear end!
20k service due in a couple of weeks, I'll get them to check it out!
Cheers,
