  • And I'd be looking for the finest scratch on the top of the guards and tell them they don't put the magnetic covers over the guards to stop them scratching them with there overalls and tools watches etc you will be requesting them to buff the vehicle and remove the greasy hand prints form the interior trim........Cheers Steve

    • Thanks Steve, I certainly won't be letting this go. I'm not sure if it's slowly getting worse or I just notice it more, but it's really taking the shine off owning what is a great car. I can't believe that this 'issue' has been around so long. Will let you know how I go.

      • Brock, the off road excuse is pure BS. Print off this thread as Steve said and shove it under the Service Manager's nose and let him explain why so many of us (right up until just the other week) are getting replacements whether our car goes off road or not.......wake up Toyota Australia (and some of your dealerships)!!

          • Had this issue on my march 2012 kakado my local dealer kept brushing me off with the grease bs. Had to drive 45min to another dealer and when I mentioned the tail shaft clunk the tech said "yep know the problem ill put a claim into Toyota". New tail shaft goes in on wednesday. The off road ECU crapped out also which gets replaced on monday. The car has been at the dealer since last wednesday for trouble shooting so far 10 days off the road bit of a shame for a +90k 4WD. Fingers crossed that this will make it reliable like a real Toyota.

            • Taking the car to Toyota again to have it greased. I have read the thread and have the part no for the new tail shaft but was wondering if anyone has the number for the older style that is giving the problems. The dealer I am going to says there is only one tailshaft and it would be nice to be able to show him two different part numbers.

              • 744drvr,

This is a photo I took of the label on my rear shaft prior to it being replaced back in July.

I'm not exactly sure which bit is the number you need to provide for comparison.

I can't check at the moment but I believe the new part number that was fitted to my vehicle is 3711060c10.

Hope this helps & good luck with it.

                Cheers,

                David.

The new part no for the petrol version is TO3711035A80, for the diesel it should be TO3711060C10. I don't know what mine was for the old tailshaft sorry.

                  • I gave the dealer the part number TO3711060c10 when I dropped the car off. When I spoke to him later he said the part number he ordered for my tail shaft was a bit different. If I ever get the car back (10 days straight so far in the workshop) ill check to see what the part number is. Mine is a Diesel Kakadu maybe they are slightly different.

                    • Thanks for the replies. As expected they were not forthcoming in wanting to replace the tailshaft but at least the service person agreed that there has to be some kind of a design flaw in the shaft. So re-greased at this stage(2nd time after 5k) and when it happens next will be pushing again for a new one.

I asked them what the part number for my current shaft is and they said they had no way of finding out, but if I wanted a new one the computer comes up with the number mentioned in this thread.

                      • Guys I have to book my car for the 20k service and I would like them to attend to my clunking sound a s well. (With a replacement rather then regrease) car is still under warranty. Those in melbourne where have you had the most success in speaking to the dealer about fixing this issue at?

I've heard chadstone Toyota are pretty good, but would like some more opinions before it gets booked in.

Bit different to the rest and the shaft has "TOYOTA GENUINE PARTS MADE IN JAPAN QUANTITY 1" sticker on it so its a new tail shaft. Hope its as good as the DLC type shaft or ill be very very pissed.

What does it say on the Service Report? The part no should be listed there with a "TO" in front of it.

                            • Mine had the clunk for a while. Didn't bother getting it sorted before our lap last year so I have just attended to it @ 65000km on the clock.

Took it to Southside Toyota in Brisbane. Spoke to Nick. They were going to try and grease/bleed it on first attempt. I went to pick it up and he said nup, she needs the new shaft.

4 business days later the shaft had arrived and I took it back for fitment. Done.

All quiet now when you come to a stop. Happy with the prompt dealing with the issue once i reported it.

They wouldn't let me have it as they said it had to be put through Toyota. Ill try to get it at the next service.
