Anybody with a new one having the tail shaft clunk ? My 2016 with 4k on the clock makes a very pronounced clunk or thump from the driveline, usually when going into reverse from park, will raise it at the first service.

I've got a 2014 150 DVD and have noticed a clunk. I previously had a 2012 150 Altitude and the tailshaft was replaced. This one is slightly different. With the 2012 model the clunk was when coming to a stop or when driving forward after reversing. This one I have noticed when coming to a roundabout and easing off the throttle not coming to a stop then the clunk happens when pushing the accelerator again. It seams to be getting worse. I thought this was meant to be fixed on the update model. Has anyone else had the same problem on a 2014 Prado.

Yes it could be I haven't seen the posts on Hesitation…. I originally thought the noise was with the gear box and mentioned it to Toyota. Of course they were unable to find anything. I'd say it's happened about 15 times in the last 1 1/2 years and usually very slight however tonight it was much worse and louder than usual very similar sounding to the tail shaft issue. I'll try and find the Hesitation posts and see what it's about.

Kinda annoying that this is happening at 16,000kms. Though I noted I was hearing it when going fwd/reverse and vice versa about 1500km ago. Ergh.

Guys, read some of the earlier posts. I had a problem in my 2012 Altitude after about 5000km. Went to the dealer and they found a Toyota Bulletin which said if the customer complains, just grease it unless the customer insists then install the new tail shaft. I haven't had any problems since new tail shaft installed. If you go to the dealer, ask them to get the bulletin out and INSIST on the new tail shaft. If you are still in warranty, you must do this.2012 Crystal Pearl Prado Altitude 150 Diesel Auto. Toyota mats and rear rubber mat. Toyo Open Country AT2's 265 65 R17 LT. Thanks Steve
I've been trying to replicate it the last few days with no luck. It's booked in to Toyota for them to have a look at but I don't think they will be able to do anything unless I can make the vehicle do it on demand. It's more to have them log the complaint for future reference if needed.

Got the new tail shaft put in today! Took about 60,000km and complaining at every service. Even just on the drive home I noticed the difference! So much smoother in general, no jolts or clunks. Other than the irregular binds and general sloppyness the thing that bothered me the most often would be When I would hit the brakes while cruise control was on there would be a bit of a jolt /clunk, now it's super smooth!

From what I have read on this thread, all those that have been greasing up the uni's are you using the specified NLGi No.2 spec grease? I have been using a Castrol NLGI No.2 spec grease and noticed in the warmer weather this grease has melted out of the grease gun nozzle leaving an oil patch on my garage floor and the boxes it sits over, Even tho the manual states a NLGI No.2 spec grease has anyone tried something different, perhaps a high pressure grease bearing/CV grease?
