Wonder if anyone else has had this happen to their 150 series diesel. Have noticed in the last week a squeaky rattle noise when at a stop in Drive and the revs drop to 700rpm. I've checked for any loose components underneath but think the problem may lie inside the gearbox or brakes. This noise has not been there before and I've not gone 4WDing or done anything different in the last two months (much to my disappointment!).
The noise does not happen when:
1. Park is selected (even at low revs)
2. Neutral or Reverse selected
3. Drive when slowly moving forward without acceleration and revs around the 700rpm mark.
4. Any of the shift gears selected
It only appears when I'm in Drive and have my foot on the brake. As the revs drop from around 900 to 700 it starts the rattle, sounds like it's underneath near the drivers side door but stops as soon as the revs increase. However as noted above, when I let the car idle along in Drive without the accelerator at the 700rpm mark the noise does not happen. It's got me stumped and I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced this before getting it checked out by Toyota as it's due for it's 90,000km service shortly.
This is not the thumping rear axle or the normal whirring noise of a diesel as turbo kicks in and out.
