So picked up my new 2016 build GXL auto last Saturday – really like it, such a step up from my previous PB Challenger. However, I did notice that it appears to have a driveline ‘bump’ on occasion. This tends to occur after driving for a while, accelerating then removing foot off the accelerator (assume in 3rd to 5th gears), it almost feels like it changes gear when foot is removed from the accelerator and gives a little ‘bump’.
I took it back to Toyota for them to test it, they plugged in a diagnostics device and went for a drive. After 20 min of driving they called me to say that it occurred when the torque converter was ‘locked up’ and when quickly removing foot from the accelerator. They have logged a report with Toyota and will advise an outcome in due course.
Interestingly though, whilst my Prado was being looked at by Toyota gave me a demo Prado (2.8) with only 700km on the clock and it also did it.. Which leads me to believe that it’s a common occurrence in the new auto Prado’s. I am not sure it can be considered a fault as its not overly harsh and doesn’t occur all the time, but it’s not exactly smooth when it happens.. The Toyota tech did say that it could be cause its so new, hopefully that is the case but I doubt it.
I wanted to get Toyota to log the issue against my vehicle incase it get worse as it goes in for suspension work, bar, snorkel and tyres next week and didn’t want Toyota to blame that!
Interested to know if others have experienced this?
