  • drive traine whine

Interestingly at 5,200 klm on the clock and there is a noticable whine through the drive train from about 80klm onward and appears to be getting worse, even when put into 4th you could hear it.

I am rather concerned so off to toyota...........already and not happy with the inconvience.

    Build quality !!! hmm

anyone one have a similiar issue?

    Re: drive traine whine

    update.

It is at Toyota for the next week, out with the Diff, a few new bearings and hopefully all ok.

Service has been great so far, however rather concerning, I hope this is not a sign of things to come

    Oh what a feeling !!

      Well

I finally pick the Prado up tomorrow, 7 days off the road; luckily I was away and was not inconvenienced that much.

I would like to thank the Toyota dealer ship and the service manager who was in constant contact with me.

The end result, 2 pinion bearings, a pinion gear and as this comes in a complete set the crown wheel was also replaced. All this before it went off road!

Well let’s hope it is a one off warranty issue

      Onwards and upwards

wow..........what ever happened to the legendary Toyota build quality? I have all three of the common problems (none fixed yet) on my D4D I hope I don't get this one as well.

          g'day mate,

recognise it's probably replaced under warranty but did they give you an idea of the $'s involved in the fix?

            Hey all....

Just clocked up the 14k on the clock and I thought I could start to hear under "certain" circumstances a "faint" whining sound coming front the rear diff. Nothing too bad but got me thinking as to whether this is just the start of something that may get worse overtime.....

Is there many that have experienced anything similar ???

When u say common..... How common and what is the cause ?? I'm not really keen on putting ARB Lockers in yet..... I would prefer a Electrical operated Difflock (Harrops?)... if there was one available.... Seen a few problems with the ARB ones losing air, etc

Other problems that I have had and seen are injectors, supply pump problems, binding on the rear tail shaft, turbo problem, the solenoid goes, the vane turbine can carbon up although I have not seen this yet, rattle in back seat and the mudflap issue. Not a bad list for a vehicle that has done under 20,000 kms, oh what a feeling factor. I have always owned Toyota 4wds, at least for 35 years. I have never had this much trouble before, I might have bought a lemon.

                  Now that's interesting

Are they much more expensive than the ARB ones. I haven't done any research yet..... how are they, reliability wise, etc ???
