  • Redarc or Projecta ?

I am finishing off the wiring to my van and all cabling is in place (from my last prado) and I intend to replace the solenoid with an automatic unit. Either Redarc SBI12 or the Projecta 100A unit ? Any bad experience with either ? Where to get the best price around Newcastle ?

Redarc SBI12 is available from eBay for $105.00 delivered. I bought one on Monday night, and it arrived this morning.

I think the Projecta relays are a "nicer looking" unit, however the success that guys on here have had with Redarc, I don't think you can go past them.

              Redarc or Projecta ?

I bought a Redarc on eBay for $100 delivered. It works great and is dead easy to install. It seemed like a good quality brand which is why I bought it over any other isolator.

I've had the projecta 150 which has been in 2of my cars & it works great.. The prado doesn't have many places to mount but these have a L bracket that goes under the existing battery so no need to mount or drill.

I went Redarc, have heard of a few problems with the Projecta's if they get wet. Just through the experiences of some mates over the years, none of them with Redarc's have had any problems.

                      Hi Guys,

Just doing the research on dual battery systems at the moment – have done searches already but still a little confused… feel free to make any recommendations etc.

My needs to start with will be basic– just to run a fridge, dashcam and CB but I wouldn’t want to limit myself in the long run – may end up looking at campervan / caravan etc. I was also contemplating eventually getting a winch on winch bracket to use at the rear rather than replace my current bull bar so having an Anderson plug at the rear will be beneficial.

Looking at the Redarc SBI12 and Projecta DBC100 / DBC150 kits – the Projecta DBC150 kit is about the same price as the Redarc SBI12

A friend at work has the Projecta – I like that is has the built in override control (though under the bonnet) – does the Redarc have this capability? It doesn’t look like it from what I could see….

Should I be worried by the peak amp rating between the two?

                      Delay: 60 seconds
                      Built in manual override (bridging)

                      Projecta DBC100K $139 ebay delivered
                      75A Continuous

                      Delay: 60 seconds
                      Built in manual override (bridging)

Redarc SBI12 Kit $186 ebay delivered
                      100A Continuous
                      400A Peak
                      Cut in: 13.2v
                      Cut out: 12.7v

FYI - also planning on voltage boosting diode.

Also planning on mounting a dual battery volt meter (Projecta’s is about $100 delivered from ebay)

I read the remark on issues with water - I don't plan on any water crossings, certainly none that should get the unit submerged!

                      Cheers,
                      Kevin

The Redarc has an override. It is the blue wire which can also be hooked up to a led to indicate when the solenoid is activated when both batteries are connected together.

Thanks for that - ended up finding it through Redarc site.

Alot of effort to go through for an override considering Projecta has it built in....
