  • Redarc BCDC1225 charger only charging battery to 12.80v

Just installed a Dual battery setup in my 150 TD Prado.

Im using a redarc BCDC 1225 charger to charge my EXIDE orbital 55AH AGM battery.

my float charge voltage is at 13.3v, however when i turn the car off the battery resting voltage goes down to 12.80/12.90v.

Is this normal or do i need to let the float cycle top the battery up to the 13.3v?

A float voltage of 13.3V when charger is operating indicates charger has swithced
    to fully charged maintenance mode.

A resting battery voltage of 12.8V would indicate a fully charged battery.

I am finishing up wiring in my 1225 in my 150 and have had a bit of a look through the search function on where is the best and most accessible place to pick up the ignition wire from .

I use the standard solenoid and it rests my optima at 12.75v and stays linked with the main batt for a good 24hours before the cars elec system draws enough out of the main and triggers the isolator to separate them leaving the aux at 12.7 and the main below that.

I think off by memory i just hooked mine straight up to the crank battery. Im pretty sure this keeps the redarc turned on even when you turn the car off until the crank battery goes down to a certain voltage. My recarc 1225 keeps charging the aux battery for about 30 mins till the crank battery voltage gets down to about 12.4 ish

Cool, im glad that mine is doing what its supposed to be doing.

Im running a ARB 60lt fridge freezer which is very power hungry, so wanted to make sure my AUX battery is charging up properly.

Mondo you can wire direct to the main or pick up an ignition on trigger wire. A good source under the bonnet is the green wire to the wiper motor and in the back either a 12V power socket or near the inverter there is an unused wire. There is a useful wires thread. I will have a look and paste the link.

                Here 'tis

I had the wire near the inverter to trigger my BCDC in the back and the wiper motor wire as a fail safe for my compressor.

Thanks , I end up stealing the Ignition point from the DRL on the Aux battery side so it worked out well. Thats a picture of my setup.

Just be careful that it doesn't loose that power supply when the headlights are turned on. I would be double checking that.

I picked up my ign wire under the dash. Can post a pic and wire colour if you get stuck. But I took mine to an auto sparkie after mucking around with it for hours. He only took a few minutes and charged me $20. I was happy as.

The charge voltage also depends on the type of battery you have wired it up for (from memory connected, not connected or earthed the orange? lead).

I use deep cycle lead acid battery but have it set to to charge as a gel battery as recommended by redarc and the battery manufacturer. Works perfectly.

The best place I found was the Fuel Heater fuse spot if I recall. It's in the under bonnet fuse box on the passenger side. Not used in Australian prados but the powered fuse spot is there regardless (no fuse in it) I used a spade connector and a 1 amp inline fuse. Ran the wire out the bottom of the box and across the radiator. It's only on when the ignition is on.
