Our diesel has a low octane rating and also has a higher sulfur content. The EU is also having to meet EU5 standard

I don`t think fuel is the issue at all, it used to be but not anymore.stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,

Not lower octane but lower cetane as I posted earlier. The Aus standard is 46 or better, the D4D really needs 50 or better which is only available in Aus (guaranteed) using BP Ultimate diesel which BTW in not avaialble in NSW and possibly only in QLD where they have a refinery.2010 150 Glacier White GXL D4D Auto

As per my post in another thread, the minimum Cetane Index in Oz is 46 and the minimum Cetane Number is 51 just as is the case in Europe. As is the sulphur content. The latest standards (post 2002) were adopted at exactly the same time. The quality of Australian fuel [matching apples with apples] is exactly the same in Australia as it is in Europe only the European standards allow for up to 7% biodiesel while the Australian ones allow only up to 5%.
http://www.environment.gov.au/atmosp...sel/index.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EN_590
The manufacturer's recommendation for minimum Cetane Number for the Prado 150 is 48, the Australian (and European) standard of 51 more than meets this requirement.
Also the MDS for BP Ultimate does not guarantee a Cetane Index of 51 but rather a minimum cetane index of 46 and a typical index of 52.

Doing some more digging, looks like the 190 hp version replaced the 173 hp version in 2011. Haven't been able to find any more specifics though.2009 Prado 150 D4D GXL with 265/70R17 Cooper AT/3 tyres, Max Trax, HR tow bar, Airtec snorkel, UHF and the usual recovery gear. While digging the net months ago, to find out why my Prado delivery was delayed so much, I found a web site that was announcing the 140kw engine for the EU market and just below was adding that for the time being, Toyota Australia decided not to get this upgrade.
No other explication.
I thought that the diesel quality may be a good reason or a limited stock availability of some part used to upgrade the engine.
Ciao
Marco
