  • Exhaust 3 inch or leave standard

    Can those in the know tell me what improvements I should expect from a 3" exhaust system compared to standard.
    Will I lose or gain power or economy doing this but not fitting a chip and if a gain how much, is it worth it?

    There are a lot of discussions on this subject if you do a bit of a search, I just can't get the links on my phone right now

    3" would be over kill, you'd loose bottom end torque. I noticed quite a difference with a free flow muffler recommended on this forum and which my local guy said was best bang for buck. Also added a Steinbauer chip,really noticeable when towing

      Haven't noticed any loss of torque, but that big 3 inch dump pipe sure looks impressive.

          Agree with bushy, haven't noticed any drop in torque with the bigger exhaust, only improvements.

            I'm thinking of Taipan XP or Beaudesert Exhaust. Has anyone chosen either of these?

                i have a 3 inch and if anything the less pipe restriction allows the turbo to spool up quicker meaning i get more 'oomph' at lower revs...plus sounds cool too.
                2013 (12 build) GX Auto.......with safari snorkel, toyota bar, tow bar, roof racks, led spots with fancy newpro switchgear, uniden remote UHF and aerial, ARB bash plates, Roadsafe recovery points, digoptions radio, general grabber AT2s, cheap ebay roof rack that has stood up surprisingly well.....

                  Since my earlier post I have spoken to Shaune at Grapnel Mufflers in Balcatta.
                  He has same model 150 diesel fitted with 3" system tows his large boat with better midrange torque and recommends this way to go.
                  He has done my old Troopy full system and custom work on my stretch Ford limo knows his stuff.

                    I fitted a 3 inch Taipan XP after doing a fair bit or research. It was down to the Taipan or Beaudesert but I was able to get the Taipan fitted in Newcastle with a discount through a friend, but it was still a pretty penny. Honestly, it is very low on the scale of bang for your bucks as you don't notice that much of a difference. I had a snorkel, K&N filter and Steinbauer chip fitted beforehand so to me I really on felt the difference when towing and in the exhaust note. The larger bore and free flowing of the gases drops the exhaust temps down, especially under load so because of the amount of towing near the limit that I do, it was a sound investment. For others not towing heavy loads, not really worth it IMHO, not for a full system.

                      Has anyone done anything to the new 2.8L.
                      I have got mine booked in 2 weeks time am only getting from dpf back and high flow mufler wondering if theres any does or don'ts
                      Arb colour code deluxe bar, safari snorkel, lightforce venom HID's, GME uhf remote face, redarc tow pro, redarc bcdc 1240, pioneer platform, 40" curved light bar, dual battery, 3" SS exhaust, EGR mod, trans cooler upgrade, provent catch can, scangauge 2, diesel care secondary fuel filter, Tin's bash plates and actuator gaurd, 2in Bilstien and kings lift,

                            When I was looking at this prior to adding my Steinbauer from what I read on this forum going from high flow muffler to 3" exhaust gains you a nice exhaust note and about 3kw on the dyno.

                              I'm getting it done by Scotts Rods at Ipswich. Have always got them to my exhausts over the past 7 years never had a fault
