Melbo, the D4D has a known hesitation problem and there is a fix. You can read this thread for all the background http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...0rpm+flat+spot

    The software update number is:

TNS63/11 Hesitation on downshift under acceleration

    It was issued on 26/08/11

Hey guys, I bought a petrol auto back in 2010 when the new Prado was released and the same thing happened to me. I wasn't impressed. I've just bought another one though, a few months ago, petrol auto and it doesn't happen on this one so maybe Toyota fixed the problem. By the way it sucks that there is no chip, exhaust for the petrol prado. My mate just bough a Range Rover Sports, V8petrol, a couple of years old, cheaper than my Kakadu, does everything off road the Prado can,and pulls like nothing else, its really quick. I love my Prado but must admit it lacks excitement!

Just make sure your mate four wheel drives down tracks a flat bed truck can get into. I do like the RR three hinge destroyers (two hinges on the bonnet and the one hinge on your wallet) but couldn't ever feel confident owning one. My mate just traded his 2009 RR sport because he hated it and is now madly in love with his 200 series Altitude D4D V8 he said they are chalk and cheese.

Hey Timmay I hear what your saying, there must be something out there. Do you know of any. Also, Kakadaz, hear what your saying as well mate. Just would be great to have a very capable off roader like the Prado, but more performance. I'd buy a D4D V8 200 Landcruiser but for me they're just a little too big for what I do in the city

Hey adventure bound I just sold my 2005 RR sport diesel and bought a petrol 150 v6 prado and I can tell you I loved the RR however although it was great on raod and especially good offroad there are known issues, all of these which I had, such as electronic park break failure ($2500) to replace, air lift suspension module fried $2300 to replace, servicing approx $1100 per service after 100,000k,s , spa wheel is under boot so clearance is an issue, winding mechanism for spare tyre rusted up $700 to replace, not to mention the lack of after market modifications and fittings, yes the RR was a beast and fuel economy was 8lt per 1000 petrol tank was only 80l with no ability for additional tank, so over all I would definitely rate the prado a better overall vehicle. By the way I have a chipped v6 wit Beaudesert exhaust.

Based on my driving so far I had car for 3 months and have done approx 5000 ks with about half country bitumen long trips and half around town 60 - 70k ave speed, I don't have a bull bar so no extra weight yet and I'm getting 11.2 to 11.5 on the long trips and 12.5 to 12.7 on the city trips. I can't comment on how much power it has given me but the guys that installed it told me it should give me About 20 more KWs, the beadesert defi itley gives it a note like a V8. The one time I did a long trip and had to be somewhere quick I was averaging 140km for about an hour and the gauge was showing 25lt per 100 so when it gets up it gets thirsty.

Hey Ellwood, thanks for the feedback.

They're big costs with the RR and making me feel more comfortable with my Prado. This is my third Prado and I've been pretty happy with its on and off road performance but it just lacks any excitement as a drivers car with the standard engine.

Great to hear that you chipped your Prado and put the Beaudesert exhaust on. I have a mechanic locally who is involved in motorsport and he's doing some research into getting mine chipped, putting an exhaust on and a cold air intake. I'll mention to him about the Beaudesert exhaust you've put on. Did Beaudesert have an exhaust designed already for the Prado or did they do a custom job for you? Can I ask what chip you put in?

Fantastic to hear your new exhaust has a V8 sounding exhaust note!!

Had a twin system exhaust fitted last week. Better exhaust note, and its definately breathing better and feels a little quicker.
