Just booked my 2012 Altitude diesel in for servicing with CMI toyota Cheltenham. Told them it was 40000km. I asked about valve clearances having to be checked. They said, that's right, can I bring in and leave all day or bring in night before as clearances need to be checked cold. There you go. So far I've found CMI Cheltenham to be pretty good. Had tail shaft replaced, ecu upgrades with no quibbles.

My car will soon be up for it's 40,000km, well, second time to 40,000 that is. 40K on the original motor they never checked the seals, 80K never checked the seals or valve clearances because it blew up at 73K. She will have 113K on the odo and 43K on the new engine very soon. So, do I get it at 40 or 80 on this engine? Or, do I say "stuff them" and do a complete injector change at 120k. I still have 10 months of extended warranty too. I know it's a 120 but it was rebuilt by Toyota in August 2012.

I just had the 40k service done by my local Toyota dealer. There was no question about not keeping it overnight so it could be worked on it cold to check the clearances. They placed it in the bay that afternoon so it wouldn't even be started the next morning. When I got it home I went over it just to make sure I got my $1100 odd dollars worth in the service. As far as I could see everything was done according to the book just couldn't tell if the gasket was new as it looked as clean as the original. But it wasn't washed or the tyres shined- not that I think that necessary. I did get told that the valve clearance was within tolerance but no specific details. Generally quite happy but $25 to dump my old oil. I'm sure they would collect it for recycling (and maybe make a profit). Next time I'll offer to take away my own used oil. The other cost that I found interesting was $77 for new engine oil. I wonder what would happen if I wanted to supply my own.

The $25 is probably listed as "environment levy" and is to actually cover disposal of your oil filters and oily/greasy rags they used. These are put in 44gal drums or specially labled wheely bins at most dealers and collected by a waste company such as JJ Richards. $25 is very steep though, a wheely bin of oil filters or rags costs $75 for disposal, oil is free because the waste company actually sells it!

Is there the same requirement for hilux's for clearances because none of ours have ever gone in overnight and most are nudging 300k without any issues. Apart from plastic water pumps that go every 150k and the odd master cylinder.

                  Old thread, still relevant questions.

What is the view on level of fuel in the tanks. The reason I ask is because they drop the tank to change the filter, so from a mechanics point of view is it better to have less fuel or it has no impact? Again we will see what happens as the car is NOT being dropped of a day prior.

                  TIA.

I thought so. Interesting thing is that it has to be changed every 20k but it has not been mentioned ever before to have the fuel at a lower level. One dealership I rang said the filter can be changed without dropping the tank. Go figure. More questions than answers. Getting the under bonnet changed at my own expense. I will ask for filter to be retained for inspection. Now what and where should I be looking for to find any sign of bad or dirty fuel? Is it worth the effort to do this inspection?

There's a filter between the tanks too apparently on the diesel but not on V6 petrol

You don't have to drop the tank when changing the filter between tanks. It is easily accessible
