My Toyota garage managed to get rid of the really annoying vibration by insulating the intake air tube that's in the front right fender with foam, and attaching it with clips to the inside of the fender. Apparently it had warped with the heat, and was touching the fender inside ! What a relief, I can now finally make the most of driving my Land Cruiser without the bloody vibration I've had the past 2 years ! Thanks for your help anyway, I hope this can help other people too...
I'm glad mine isn't the only Prado doing this. I really hate the rattling and was contemplating getting rid of the car I hated it that much!!!! Hasn't even ticked over 20,000kms yet!!!
I'm gonna have a good look around the air box when wifey gets home with it! Good work guys!!!
Sound deadening inside the guards is the best fix. When I tap outside of the guards now I get a dead thud, and before it was a hollow metallic sound. The Prado is so much smoother and quieter, and when I showed the local service manager he was amazed at the difference.

Hey fellas I also have this noise on my 150 D4D. It sounds like it is coming from the lhs in front of windscreen and I have a snorkel fitted. Could this be caused from same problem?

Quite likely. There is one other light clicking noise that sometime comes from where the windscreen fits into the plastic under the wipers, if it is this it goes away when the windscreen is wet.

Thanks Krypto, this noise is more like a rubbing metallic noise and it is there all the time. Only really notice it on the highway over 70kmh. Thought it was stones stuck in the bash plate of bull bar but wasnt that.
I have owned a Prado GXL Diesel Auto for over a year and the vibration at 1,500 RPM (about 80 KPH when in top gear, 60 KPH in 4th) has been driving me insane. It is a delightful car in every other respect but this was enough to make me want to sell it. Yes, it was due to them having a poorly designed Air Intake. It was outrageous of Toyota to put them onto the market when they should have known better by now. At first I believed it was due to being in a gear that was too high but it had oodles of power at much lower RPM. I ended up fitting a Safari Snorkel and am now delighted with the result. It now drives more like a nippy sports car, especially with the added advantage of a Chip & Exhaust job. The Snorkel looks fine if you get it painted to match your car. Caution though, only get it painted by somebody who know what primers to use on this type of plastic otherwide the paint job could be a disaster. This Forum has helped me so I hope this info also helps you. Peter
Hi Peter, I also have a Pardo GXL Diesel auto and have suffered the 1500 RPM vibration. I bit the bullet yesterday and ARB fitted a safari snorkel to her. The 1500 RPM vibration has gone however I have loud vibration coming from the snorkel when at idle and the A/C kicks in. I had my wife start the car with bonnet open ( Try to isolate the vibration) and found that when i applied pressure to the Filter box the vibration disappeared. Does anyone have and ideas before I send her back to ARB? The car that is not the wife LOL
As I said earlier in this post, you don't need to fit a snorkel to fix this problem and from reading another thread it seems toyota now have a fix involving fitting an asphalt mat inside the guard
