  • Prado D4D 30K service Dodgey or OK

Hello , Just took my Prado 150 Diesel in for the 30k service at toyota as I'm about to head into central Aust this weekend.
The service manual says new air filter & so does the receipt.. Before I took it in I used a texta to mark the oil & air filter to make sure they did it .. I see they changed the oil filter but the air filter was not changed as it had my texta mark all over it.. When I picked it up & asked were they change I was told absolutely .. Now I'm not sure if the service manual refers to the aircond filter I haven't checked that..

Looking at this receipt should the engine air filter have been changed ?

Yes, your first arrow points to it.
As for the aircond filter, have a look inside the glovebox. Not sure how to remove the filter in the 150 but when you do and it has a layer of dust on it, then it's obvious that it hasn't been changed.

The air con filter, in the 120 anyway, sits behind the glovebox, fairly easy to remove. Last time I checked mine, it had a few bugs on it....

Reminds me, I need to book in my 100,000k service...

yes, it should have been changed. it's changed every 30,000 in the 150.

Well I just took out the glovebox & checked the cabin filter .. That hasn't been changed either , it's quiet dirty !
I can't believe these guys.. The fixed price service isn't worth anything if they do this sort of thing.

Now it's going to take me another half day of mucking around tomorrow to get this sorted..

          thanks for the replies

Time to name and shame Let me guess, CHT?

Best to crawl under the car and see if the prop shafts and uni-joints are greased too. If they are bone dry or have a layer of muck on the grease nipples, you'll know that the grease gun has never been anywhere near your Prado.

Yep, unfortunately you can't trust some dealers to do what you paid for. My local Toyota dealer changed wiper blades last April and charged me for original Toyota refills. I went to change the drivers side blade recently and found it was a generic replacement blade worth about $6.50 and the Toyota refills no longer fitted because the original backing strips were gone. To their credit, when I showed the parts department the invoice, they replaced the entire wiper arm and blade for me so that the genuine Toyota refill would fit in future and they billed the service department for it.

When I get my service done, I always ask for the old parts like air filters, belts, hoses and spark plugs to be returned to me as spares. I don't ask for the oil filter to be returned, but I do put a little mark on the old one. You just can't trust some Toyota service centres, and that's a damn shame. I hope they reimburse you for the time and effort you wasted in rectifying their dishonesty.

Really, I have not had any problem with them except maybe to much grease on the slip joint

There is a very good reason why I dodge Tojo service bays at the first opportunity .. they will get me for the free service at 1,000kms.

My opinion is that when thesze ar$eholes are found out Toyota should fine them a Princely sum of $1,000 and remit it to the customer. That will stop their profiteering dishonest ways.

Now, please name and shame so natural justice may take its course.

I do believe if you've been charged for a part, been told the said part has been replaced, and then discover this is not true it is entirely reasonable to report to the Service Manager as FRAUD.

I would also be suggesting to dealer that they and come collect your prado, make good on the invoiced items and bring it back - failing that a threat to report the fraud to police seems to get things moving...
                      Cheers

It wasn't cht it was windsor Toyota .. Anyway all sorted now & I'll give them benefit of doubt but I think it's wise to put a mark on your filters & check afterwards..

Software error my ass... That sort of "service" makes me mad. I'll be marking all mine before it goes in for its next service as well, seems you can't trust anyone these days.

Might go and mark mine now as it booked in for a 30k service in the morning. Not at the above mentioned toyota but I want to make sure.
