Moonroof leak - 150 kakadu

Okay, so it's been pretty wet up here is Brisbane, and after the Kaka sat out in the rain for 8hrs while I was at work (heavy rain all day) I returned to find the front passenger floor soaking , with water still dripping down over the speaker!! Now, I've looked for posts on here thru the search function and Mr Google, to no avail, so I thought I'd post here what I'd found for others..

At first I thought maybe a dodgy door seal, nope all good, then I looked further and found that the roof lining was wet near visor and along A-piller!! MOONROOF!!! So, as it was still pouring, I had to drive home to investigate further,, It seemed to stop dripping when driving.

Long story short, on close inspection with Moonroof open, the passenger side (fwd) drain still had water sitting over it and the drivers side was clear, so I think as I drove and turned corners, the excess water sloshed across to drivers side and drained away which made the dripping ease up.

SO, I grabbed a couple of meters of wire from the shed and fed it down the drain and woosh!! All clear!

A quick and cheap fix to my relief, when I thought I might be up for a new Moonroof seal..$$$. Good idea to keep an eye on drain holes from time to time after rain to see if any water has accumulated over holes, as it could go unnoticed until long periods of rain exposure.

Another leaking moonroof and blocked gutter drainage channels

I have a 2010 Kakadu and I experienced a similar incident in the past two weeks with a leaking moonroof/sunroof! I noticed a musty smell developing in the car and I tracked it down to wet carpet in the driver side footwell, under the rubber mat. Initially I thought some water had managed to get under the rubber mat but eventually realised the carpet was sopping wet! I lifted the sidepanel trim & other trims around the door pillar to release the carpet and confirmed water dripping into the footwell. There were also some drips and damp near the driver side sunvisor. I rarely use the moonroof but I opened it to check whether I could see into the roof space and see any evidence of water leaks. I could see that water had pooled to overflowing in the moonroof front gutter, due to blocked draining channels on both driver's side and passenger's side. I cleared the channels and water drained away. The fact that water can backup and readily overflow from the drain into the adjacent roof space is evidence of pretty shoddy design. After sponging out most of the water in the footwell it took all night and most of today to get the underfelt and carpet dry, first using a small fan and then resorting to a heated blower fan. Now that I've finally dried the carpet I'll have to run the hose over the moonroof to check whether it's leaking and if so, whether any water getting through is draining away adequately, or if the overflow is likely to reoccur. Can anyone confirm whether the moonroof is meant to be entirely waterproof & dustproof as one would assume? The seal looks pretty tight but the fact that there is a drain at the front of the moonroof opening suggests that maybe it's not designed to be hermetically sealed! Is this normal behaviour for Kakadu moonroofs or does this mean I need a new moonroof seal?

Ok, so I know this thread is a bit old, but thought I'd relay my experience for others in the future. I've just had the dreaded Kakadu moonroof leak.. but to the extreme.. the vehicle was parked for 2 days and we have had some serious rain.. go to start car, and all it does it's crank without firing, also showing random codes and flashing lights on the dash. Upon investigation, the moonroof fwd pass side drain was clogged, water had built up and tracked across to behind 'A' pillar trim, then down behind pass kick panel. Floor/carpet/mat was flooded, with panels removed it was obvious that all electrics (a lot) that live behind it were soaked.. attempts to blow dry the area failed (limited equip while remote camping).. and it ended up being towed.. yet to hear the outcome from repairers.. needless to say, it won't be cheap..
So, to all moonroof owners out there, check your drains (and blast with compressed air on a regular basis).. it could save you time and money..

I just had the same thing happen to my Kakadu. Went through the carwash water started leaking from sunroof. After I pulled out of carwash the car died and started throwing multiple codes. Noticed water in passenger footwell. Had to get towed home. I am about to start pulling the plastic panels off around the passenger side footwell to investigate.
