I tow a camper that's around 1500kg,use 4th except when I'm on flat stretches with no wind. Current fuel consumption gives you a good idea if how hard the engine is working and load on the gearbox .Biggest problem in 5th is if it drops out of lock up the torque converter heats up the gearbox oil really quickly and it gets really hot.

Me as well. Very conscious of temps building up so use 4th - and drive at about 95kph. My camper weighs in at about 1300kg.

Thanks everyone. With the 2016 model having the 2 overdrives I still figured it would be 4th. Always good to hear from others.

Hi, I have driven over 1,000,000 Km in 5 speed manual Landcruisers [about 5 in total]and lot of that was with a trailer [1000Kg+]. The owner's manual for all the vehicles stated "do not use 5th when towing". 5th in a 5 speed manual is always an over drive so should not be used when towing. Never had a transmission or engine issue but the same can't be said for the suspension! One day I may write a book of my experiences. Owen

Probably shouldn't but yes, I have been known to give the right foot a rest...

Normally not, but travelling across the Nullabor earlier this year with wind assistance, I used the cruise on the flat sections. As 120D4D stated, it gives the right foot a rest. Still kept the auto in S4.
