But I did not think you could upgrade the gross vehicle mass at all, with out major engine brakes axles etc plus engineering reports.
I had my Hilux GCM upgraded before first rego, not a problem, but I could not get a higher GVM update.

Olli, can you please respond to the question asked of you in post 20?My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

I have been advised that this GCM or GVM upgrade uses off the shelf BE5-A712/BE5-A713 Bilstein struts and shocks.
As I have stated in many previous threads, the 713 does not have enough rebound to control a high coil rate in a heavily loaded Prado, and it will give minimal droop in lifted geometry.
While the 713 may have passed a brake or swerve test to satisfy GCM or GVM upgrade requirements, many members here are aware of the notorious pitching "pogo stick" dynamics that will results if you use a 713 off-road in a packed up Prado.
Much better rear Bilsteins to use!

Well it's definitely good that we can now upgrade the GVM or GCM on the limited towing capacity of the Prado, so for heavy towing tourers that are doing mostly on-road touring this is still an attractive package.
For lifted heavy off-road Prados that are not towing but need the GVM upgrade, maybe they can offer an alternative rear shock such as the B46-1478LT or 24-217897 which will be much better in pitching low-speed off-road conditions.

sorry for the late reply everyone. in the the a712/713 is the shock listed as a standard replacement for the prado these.
we use be5a712 in the front, we can fit a spacer to it to give it more travel, or we can use the hilux front be5d563 which has firmer rebound valving.
in the rear we can use either 24-238830 or b461678lt which we modify here to give them better shock life and wheel travel. the 24-217897 is an old quadrant part number that is no longer available.

Hey Ollii,
Thanks for the reply!
Great to know we have a few options. The D563/1478LT combination goes extremely well off road in loaded up Prados.
The 24-217897 will still be sold by Sydney Shocks, I believe they are on order.

Just got a little info from a dealer that I thought worth sharing. I was speaking to a sales rep from Oldmac Toyota Springwood about the 3 tone upgrade. He tells me that it can be done in QLD but only before the car is first registered. Well thats OK if you are buying a new one. But no help to anyone that has one that is already registered.

I too am interested in having my 2014 GXL Prado's towing capacity upgraded. Have received some information from Climax and they state that Toyota's new vehicle warranty is unaffected by this upgrade. Just to be certain I have sought confirmation from my Toyota Dealer who has replied:
"With regard to your question, any modification or alteration from standard equipment will affect the Toyota warranty. As such, Toyota will not cover the vehicle should a failure occur in the driveline or associated components as a result of the increased GVM modification."
Looks like it's back to the drawing board for me - at least until my Prado is out of warranty.

Was at a show with Lovell over the weekend and they are about to release a kit for the 150, it will be a gvm upgrade and towing upgrade to 3100kg, it will be legal in all states as it will be done a federal level,. I did ask about it, and I was told a tad over $8k drive in, drive out
Not keen on it now

Hello all.
Keep your hats on. I was today advised that new legislation has been passed in QLD in last couple of weeks which apparently will impact on Prado towing weights. Engineers in various companies waiting for verification from governement departments involved to then work on formal changes. Will know something in nest 3 - 4 weeks.
