Heck, I got my old Model T ready to go mate....

Yeah right on Piggy! I know what you mean. I don't really like the overall look of the 200 Lancruisers. But then, I haven't seen a decently kitted up one either. I think stick a decent bullbar on one with some mud tyres and you'd already have a better looking beast. Just that back door always reminds me of some fat person with tight jeans on, and errrrrrrrr... all the excess spills out the top. I dunno, maybe a decent double spare carrier would hide it enough. Dunno how much payload capacity you'd have left over after adding that stuff on though.... :?

See, that pic of the new Prado really seems to show a very short nose / bonnet, which makes it look weird to my eye's. But then, if I see a 120 with no bullbar then they also look wierd. Just unnatural or something, heck you lot know where I'm coming from. So yup, lets see it with a non fat @ss rear door and a non-girly bullbar and then we can judge it.

G'day all, saw a mate today who works in a large Toyota dealership and his boss told him the new Prado will be out in October '09 and will look like the current Rav, Kluger, 200 series shape.

My guess, on the 09/09/2009 not sure if it wilby for the new prado ?? Maybe something else 'revolutionary' ?? I don't know if the new prado fits this description. The GFC and sales (clearance) of old models will more than likely effect this date.

Those that do know anything will not say anything as they are under a very tight NDA and those that do say something are more than likely full of undigestable food that continues to flow out of their mouths other wise know as mierda de toro !!

My guess is a car yard saleman would be one of the last people to know anything. But they will claim they know the new model to be released in 2025 !!!

Manufacture's do run trials in Australia well before any release. Most do this on private property to keep all the snoops away. The owners of these properties are finacially rewarded and also are under an NDA. So why spoil a good cash cow

I would have a guess that the concept drawing of the next gen prado, is a predetermined advertising 'leak' from toyota. Wow !! a bit of free advertising

So basically i provided no more information than other post in this thread

You'd possibly be surprised. I have a couple mates who are very involved in the testing in Australia for Toyota, Holden, Ford, Porsche, Volkswagen, GM etc.
Most is hi-speed and hi temperature testing that is performed up around the centre of the NT. Most cars originate from SYD or MEL and travel thru ADl to pick up the test trailers and support vehicles.
They then drive up thru to the top end and return.
average testing is 1 week to 3 weeks on road.

They havent ever done any on private property apart from the normal testing grounds, (Tailem Bend, Geelong etc etc).

Now that the NT doesn't have an open (unrestricted) speed limits, some are concerned that the NT will be overlooked for these types of vehicle tests. It is arguable that they could obtain an exemption to conduct their tests, but there is no indication from the Government as to whether or not any would be granted or if the testing would continue to occur as frequently as it did before 1 January 2007 (when the 130k/hr speed limits were introduced).

Still testing, they just limit their speed to 130 (yeah right)..

The issue is currently most manufacturers have cancelled testing due to the current world financial situation. Same as Cars just arent being sold, all on onflow.

                • Re: When is the new generation Prado due?

Thats the one thing that surprises me how stupid car manufactures are...
"Tall people wont want to drive our cars with the 2nd row seats folded forward surely...."
"What do you mean his legs are numb..."
"Just take your shoes off, that will give you 10mm or so ..."

Tosspots basically, why design a car with folding middle seats when the front seats are all the way forward or mid slide, *&**&'n design em when there all the way back you bastards !!

                  Rant over....

Looks like that prototype thingy has sacrificed boot space for the passenger door length longer and possible fix for the above solution in the new model.... Hope so, but losing boot space would suck, but if they design it like the Pathfinder rear seats folding into the body, that would be awesome.

I don't think it matters what it looks like or has underneath the suspension, like the 200 series that everyone bitched about, because it is the latest and greatest they will sell sh!t loads and after a few months everyone will get over it and move on.
personally i like the rav, kluger and the 200 series so bring it on. I just won't be buying in the first twelve months, like any car i am sure the prado will some bugs to iron out.

And then you lose the 2nd fuel tank. It's always the same story with any new model, what do you want to sacrifice to get what you want?

Could easily fix that, lift the rear roof like the Landy, and heighten the seats for more leg room hahaha....
Yes, one always wants the most out of any new model don't they.

Imagine an Artic Ice Truck version of those badboys pictured, would look nuts.

I might have spotted the new Prado is full camoflague out the back of Roxby Downs on Tuesday doing some testing. There was a Kluger right in front of it, possibly the support vehicle (I only say this as everybody in the Kluger had their eyes firmly fixed on the vehicle behind). Only got a quick glance as I was heading opposite direction at highway speeds. It didn't seem to be much bigger than the Kluger at all, very similar in it's proportions!

                          Time will tell I guess.

                          Cheers,

It sounds outlandish, even Heretical I know but..... why couldn't you make the 2nd row seats removable? That way you could just take em out when you didn't need them. Personally, I'd rather keep the larger fuel tanks than be able to fold the seats nicely away. Too many passengers is overrated anyhow........

Quote from the March 2009 CONTRACTOR magazine:

"Toyota WA public relations manager Lindsay Taylor told Contractor that a completely restyled new Prado will be launched in November this year, although drivetrains from the current range will be retained."

                              Sadly nothing more...

yep, new proado due out later this year. has been discussed previously on this site, some months ago. someone even had a photo taken from an overseas site.
combination between the 200 & kluger. will be the same D4D motor but, cranked up, same as the pajero.
looking forward to seeing it & depending upon price, might replace my D4D. cheers Tom
