Not that much wider I was tricked by sizes too - my dealer told me it was 200mm lower!

Here's a link to a Toyota (Toyota Japan, but it's in English) press release:

        Prado press release

Makes for a very interesting read, especially in regards to some of the technology available on the new model.

Interesting to see if we get all the "fruit" here, if you convert the pricing for the second highest spec (VX?) it comes out to A$52,380.00 dollars.

They're Back!!! Who else got the email from Toyota today offering the 'get in early' test drive of the new Prado in November. I think I'll take the offer just to try it. Actually it certainly looks better than what had been thrown around as to what it would be. That they have kept both tanks is a bonus. It remains to be seen what the details are but at this point it seems better than I was expecting. Not that I'm changing yet anyway, just can't refuse an offer to drive a new car.

              • Re: When is the new generation Prado due?

Rest assured that the crawl control wont be at the expense of a 'low range' - it (in the LX570 and LC200 at least) is an incremental 4 setting knob that maps to an ascent or descent speed on say 1km/h, 2km/h, 3km/h, 4km/h - it provides braking and accelerator to keep the vehicle ticking along at that speed automatically (unless you brake or accelerate yourself) and you just sit there and steer Maybe a touch removed for the true 4WD experience but pretty impressive due to the smooth and consistent power delivery that means.

If you can put 17s over the enlarged calipers then I think on balance it's a lot better than I thought it might be. I'm not sure if we'll get the power fold down seats (surely that comes at the expense of one of the fuel tanks ?) but the shorter overhangs is good news. The KDSS system is great on the road at least - the LC200 petrol I drove had great handling with a nice flat stance through the corners.

I would be surprised if the price doesn't go up by more than 2 or 3k per each model.

I haven't gotten an email from Toyota but my dealer owes me a drive - think I'll ask for a drive in each model in fact

Wonder if they'll offer a remapping of existing D4Ds (yeah right if it's just an ECU upgrade ? Also, a gas strut on the tailgate would be nice - the Toyota spokesman apparently hasn't heard from many people that have been flattened by a suddenly closing door: guess he doesn't have one himself then...

Push button start is a little gimmicky but my friend with a LC200 is very enamoured of his so I guess as long as it doesn't malfunction ?

I never use cruise control anyway so the radar won't make a difference (I think Cruise C. is dangerous but that's another discussion).

Well Since Mike Launched a Locking Campaign on All of New Posts Regarding the New Prado (Sorry mate didn't mean to repeat posts I was just Excited and I thought It's a new topic of being the offical thing not just sneak shots like mine back in July or a wondering question like this one ) ,

 Any Ways I have to Post this Video Caught on YouTube for the Official Japanese Launch

                    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnkSNeN5VRU

I hate the Fact that Everything is electric - I mean where can you fix a crawl System out there in the desert ,

or The Shi**y $wd Selection Mode - How am I going to wait for 10 minutes playing with a knob to adjust 4Wd Settings (Imagine if you are going from Rock Terrain to A little river and then off to Rocks again) - The same thing happened to me on Oman and My Rig was always on HL and that's that

I like the camera Thing , The Seats Fold is good -I guess-

Am still gonna keep my Rig Though

                    Any Comment Guys

                    • Re: When is the new generation Prado due?

Looking at that Japanese launch video gives me misgivings about the amount of boot space you're losing due to that false floor to accomodate the 3rd row - the 3rd row looks like it is not removable and the rest of the cargo area is built up around it i.e. the rest of the cargo area flooring is built up (sacrificed) in order to give a cleaner look. I'm assuming this is to keep the second fuel tank. The Pajero 3rd row submarines below the cargo floor and when the seats are up that vacated recess area becomes a 'wet storage area' (but forget about the space for the extra 90L). If you're looking to put a drawer system in there you're going to need a false floor and straight away you've got less room to play with.

I imagine the terrain response system is fairly swift in operation i.e. if you've got air springs the compressor will alter them automatically and the front springs also and the throttle response will be electronically adjusted etc i.e. within a few seconds - this assumption is based on the LR system functionality which is probably the benchmark system at the moment for automation.

The cameras look great and add real value for 4WDing too (the wheel direction indicators will help pick a line) but I'd hate to think how much one of those wing mirrors (with camera) will cost to replace if you clip a tree or scrape the embankment of a cutting.

I thought the front ends on those Japanese cars looked great actually but the rear end looks a little neglected by the design department.

Re : Micks press relase Japanese model. And some opinion on same.

The folding 3rd row seats are evidently powered rather than hand folded. Push a button and away they go. Now here comes a nightmare when THAT doesn't work
The rear door will incorparate an opening window ala Territory.Very handy - wish the 120 had that!
The Smart Entry & Start System allows front doors and hatch door to be locked and unlocked with only light touch on door handle - I think Nissan MAxima uses this. Another thing to go horribly wrong when subjected to vibration and dust.

Power tilt-function and telescopic steering wheel standard.
An air conditioning vent facing the second-row seats has been added to the center console. About time!
Windscreen wipres are rain sensing. Gimmick.
Rear vision mirro is auto dimming. Ditto.
Torsen drive remains as per Aussie model.
Looks like the AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension System) or the NAVI/AI-AVS (Navigation/Artificial Intelligence-Adaptive Variable Suspension System), - and maybe 'crawl control' are resevred for upper end models (Grande?). Hmmmmmmmmmm...........
