  • Re: When is the new generation Prado due?

I guess this question posed by this thread is now known :?: :?: :?:

The Toyota website appears to provide the answer:

 Seeing as the new 150 series Prado is due in 2009, why is the this forum titled, "150 Series Discussion (the 2010 Prado)"?

Even though it will be released in late 09 it will be designated MY10 being Model Year. This is common amongst car manufacturers

Most car dealers (& motorbikes) next year model is released after August of the previous year.

This is typically to coincide with the US motor shows which are typically in November each year. So a 2010 (insert any car model) would be released November 2009.

              Hi all
Took a spin past Patrick Auto Care's yard at Outer Harbour in Adelaide today, and yes thar she blow.
The new Prado's were lined up about 50 meters from the fence.

                Folks
At a local dealer today and spotted the brochures for the new 150 on the floor of the salesmans office, I asked for one and he told me that they are confidential. i mentioned that a couple of Pradopointers had been given pricing and he stated that even firm orders placed would not be given a firm price, the customer would be told what the price is when the car was ready for delivery!!

No discounts available for 6 monthes at least and they expect the price of late model used 120's to rise with the increased price of the 150.

Hmmmmmm. An interesting prospect. The price of used 120's rising because of the increased price in replacement 150's. I could certainly see this happening for the late model 120's when people balk at the 70K (supposed) asking price of an equivalent 150. It'll be interesting to watch prices over the next few months, that's for sure, particularly if the 150 isn't well received. Being the cynic that I am though, I fully expect any strengthening in the 2nd hand market for 120's to be limited. The mob is a strange and dynamic beast though, and anything is possible!

I happened to come across the info that there is currently 20 new 150 Prado's in SA, they are to be used for the release to the delaers in a training / demonstration day. A $300k 4wd track has been built for the occasion!
I am trying to get an invite to the event as a number of people I know are the test drivers that are used on these events. Pics to come if so!

25 Prado actually with all variants on show for dealership staff and fleet clients. The track is not 300k long but has been built to advanced driving standards and includes water, sand, rocks, 32 degree side slopes and flip flops, rock garden, moguls and very steep ascent and decents for CRAWL demonatrations and a very long descent off a rather steep hill.

I designed and built it for the client and it remains ours for advanced driver instruction.

Having been driving every model over the last three days and back to backed them against and upgraded LC200 and my 120 I am very confident in saying that the Kakadu with CRAWL and KDSS is about the most competent 4WD around. A big call for some who have yet to drive it I am sure but keep your opinions and minds open until you actually get in to one and drive it on bitumen and in challenging terrain. The KDSS is a significant step forward from LC200 being electronically as well as hydraulically controlled. The base GX is an excellent package as well so the full range are still serious off road cars. Jury will be out on the durability side until we get one for extended testing but the are stiffer and better setup than 120. All positive? Well there are still enough small items to be improved but primarly around the huma interface for the steering control based and viewing screens and menus for a start. I am being picky for sure but they can be better but a small gripe. Gearing is certainly different, comments are for auto trans, with a very low 1st gear and bit of a jump to second and third is even taller and that is in low range. Both engines are definitely improved and you can feel it wit my pick being the diesel this time around

The new shape is better in the flesh as I said some considerable time back and the interior is a step up on quality. Of course low range is now controlled by a rotary dial rather than a stubby fun lever and we have push button start to get used to but all seems very good at the moment

For those contemplating a manual you will find that with push button start there is now a lockout on the clutch so you cannot start the vehicle in gear. Same as for automatics. But there is a micro-switch located high and behind the clutch that you can reach with a boot off and which you then can hold down to then to a normal key stall start. A touch challenging but I am sure an after market supplier will come up with something to move that switch to a more convenient spot

You will see cars in dealers around 15 November or earlier

                          Enjoy the debate

                          Regards

That's probably the budget for the launch in Adelaide. Certainly nothing like the very low cost of building the track itself

I ask as I have had my name on a preorder list for many weeks and am waiting to see how they compare spec and price wise.
Frustrating that Toyota have this blackout period to keep everyone guessing.
