i would have to agree the seats are uncomfortable on long runs and the lumber support is very poor. My falcon at half the price had better seats with more adjustment.

    Cheers

Certainly on long trips, the lack of lumber support is a pain in the back for me too! Nothing more than a niggle, but something more than I've experienced with any other car I've driven.

I'm loathe to reach for grandad's cushion... not a good look .

Hi I spoke to my fleet manager at one of the bigger Toyota dealers in Brisbane and the latest update from Toyota HQ as of last month is ..
          .

Prado and LC200 both receive minor change as from August production, Prado changes are only on VX and Grande models – with chrome trims added and tweeter surrounds. LC200 will adopt blue illumination on the audio units. (all models I assume)

Info on the new model Prado is:-

“Prado – Aug 09. It will keep the same engine and gear box. It will go from 8 to 7 seats, with a fold flat rear 3rd seat (like Kluger). A 3 door 5 seat model will also be released. There will no longer be a Std and GX grade.” (not uncommon for this to change between now and then – but all we know at the present)

I'm guessing from the fold flat rear seat that the 2nd fuel tank will be deleted.
I asked about the Std and GX being deleted and I was told that the 70 series will get duel front airbags so they can slot into the mining industry for OHS needs.
          Cheers

Surely they wouldn't tamper with the 180L tank by submerging the 3rd row seats and cutting seating from 8 to 7. My wife and I ummed and ahhed about whether to wait for the new model and I was worried they might do something like that because about the only negative that reviewers highlighted was the way the 3rd row was set up. I REALLY wanted the long range tanks and we loved the look of the current model so much we decided to order now. I think the 3rd row are fine...they are a cinch to remove, and are really only there for kids anyway.

Re the chrome trims, where on the car would these be...the Grande already has chrome side mirrors...do they mean the front and rear bumpers, door handles??

            Pretty minor changes though.

            Nick

Further to that..we seriously considered a Discovery. We have 2 littlies plus G'Parents that often ride in the car with us. The third row in the Discovery are extremely comfortable seats with a proper foot well and they fold easily into the floor. Problem was with the spare under the floor as well, the fuel tank was quite small. We decided on the Prado because the fuel tank was so big and the third row seats very easy to take out or put back.

The possible new changes would basically convert the Prado into a Discovery and take away all the advantages that swayed us to the Toyota. I would not have thought that would all that smart. If people want that setup, they'll buy a Discovery. The way the Prado is setup at the moment makes it a unique vehicle and I think that is why there are so many on the road.

I really doubt this information as the major selling point for prado is the duel fuel tank and a 8 seater. Std and GX makes for about 50% fleet sales so again why would toyota do this

Only time will tell but I thought the same thing about fleet sales but when I asked that same question I was told that the push would be towards the 70 series and wagon with the addition of airbags. If you take the 200 series as a guide to where things are going they deleted the std model and deleted the second tank on some models this time around.

The dual fuel tanks was a key selling point that influenced me to buy a Prado - The other influence was the fantastic Pradopoint community

Yeh..I agree. The large sub tank and 8 seats are strong points to buy a Prado. Othewise I'd go with a Disco 3 or something else.

Just spoke to my Toyota Dealer her in Auckland. According to him Toyota will be releasing a "facelift" model in a couple of months. He is going to try and dig up a few pic's for me. I'll post them the moment I have it...

Also, he mentioned that there will be a front and rear light change, in his words " making it look like a little LC200" He was not to sure of any other meaningfull changes :?: :?:

Something to keep in mind Nick.

I seriously, seriously looked into a Disco 3 after my previous Prado and GU Patrol. Beautiful car, smart features, wins all the awards (?) etc

                              HOWEVER....

                              * My new D4D GXL will be at my house for 3 years
                              * It will cost $180 per service every 10,000 km including parts and labour
                              * In 75,000 km it will have cost me $1080 in servicing
                              * A mate just sold his Disco 3 because his 80,000 cost him $2.400

In any town in Australia you will find a Toyota dealer, finding a LR dealer..?
                              Aftermarket accessories..?

At the end of the day my head won and my heart lost. After bringing home my Prado my heart is healed
