  • Has anyone removed their card holder?

Hi all, was trying to shove my ipad into the glove box today only to find that it barely fit due to a box being fitted on the upper right corner. I later flicked through the manual and found out it's a card holder :!: :?: Obviously it serves its function as a card holder, but is it seriously something everyday people would use? I ask myself "it must serve some other purpose" :?: :?: Especially for an off road vehicle, its not everyday that you go 4x4ing to meet a client and happen to rip your business card out from the glove box card holder.... Toyota are big on cost savings, every cent saves them a ton of money. My question is, how the heck did this get passed? It's so overly chunky for a card holder too! -end rant-

So solutions... has anyone torn it out?

I was wondering the same thing actually.

I have indeed put some cards in it, just to see if that's what the manual mean, and sure enough, it holds cards, but isn't particularly useful for much else.
My only guess is it's actually covering some sort of protrusion into the glovebox area and they needed something to make it look intentional, thus the card holder.

Haha I shoved a card in to see what happened too - sadly nothing... You have a point there, but it's unlike Toyota to patch up a fault like that.

No, they leave them out in the open and then claim it's "as designed" *cough* mudflaps *cough*

It would have been neater if they had placed the usb port or maybe an SD card reader in there instead of a useless card holder. Having the usb port in the glovebox would also mean a securer place to permanently house an ipod. I currently have a usb flashdisk, permanently stuck in the centre console usb port and I can see myself snapping it in half one of these days. Luckily these usb flashdisks cost pennies making them easier to replace and not so much of a thief attractant. Mr. Toyoda should have run a focus group on pradopoint before approving the designs for the 150 *sigh*.

I actually read that you were using it for that purpose after doing a search for "card holder". I used to use a fuel card too, put it in the centre console compartment along with all the receipts. I suppose that would be the one and single practical use of the card holder lol

I'd never leave my parking ticket in the car. A matter of safety really.

I don't know about that.... Rental companies don't make up for the majority of market and I don't believe they have the power to command Toyota to spend what would be millions on this feature. If this were the case, toyota may as well start selling us cars designed to be taxis! I've also yet to see it on other Toyota models.

Oh well I give up on this lol  going to have to learn to live with it.

I was told originally that it was for the techs to download data from (What a crock). When I collected my Prado from another dealer, they said it was to simply store a fuel card. Thats it.

That's what i use it for, plus a small stash of emergency cash. I could certainly do without it though if someone had an idea for better use of the space.
