Dynamat for road/wind noise

    Yeah I got the Dynamat extreme from ebay though. Genuine stuff just cheaper. I went for coverage of the outer door skin, I read that it's the best for the road noise where the inner frame is better for speaker response.
    When driving now it seems the noise is coming from the rear area ?rear doors so ill do them and see how I go. My roof rack will still need to be addressed at some point.

        Yeah got it from them. Took about a week to get here but it comes from Adelaide so should be quick if you were to buy it. Alice springs post is notoriously slow

          I would highly reccomend this - And it is 100% on my list of things to do asap to my Prado.

          I owned a 2007 4 door Wrangler JK before the Prado and I layered the entire interior with two layers of Dynamat Extreme (all accesable metal panels execpt the roof) - Made the world of differance.

          Judging from the differance it made in the Jeep - By my calculations, if you removed door skins, Roof Skin, and Seats\carpet and stuck down even one (better two) layers of Dynamat extreme you would end up with Limo like comfort in a Prado - NO DOUBT..

          You would need at least two Bulk Packs to do one overall layer and double up on key areas like doors and cargo bay for a prado. about $500 and serious elbow grease :-) well worth the effort though.

            In my limited experience it's elbow grease and all of the skin off your knuckles too...

              To Right Mate - I'll second that...

              If you are going to do this then best to get one of the steal rollers as well - it will make the job much easier and quicker to... For the stuff to work to its full pottential it really does need to be installed to the point where it is as one with the steal it is being installed onto.

              The other thing this stuff "Does" do that people don't generally give it credit for is give the skins a higher resistance to small dints from car doors and trolleys etc. that and a nice closing door thud that will put any VW to shame :-)

              I would highly reccomend doing the Bonnet and front and rear quaterpanels as well - you'd be surprised how much of a differance doing the front quater panels will make.

                My 100 series if fully "dynamatted" including both inner and outer door skins. It is a b@astard of a job that took me about 40 hours. The results were great but I wouldn't be in a hurry to do it again.

                  Sure is a Bit@h of a job thats for sure... defo break it up over a few week ends.

                  Whole floor inc rear cargo area will be first.
                  Then front doors
                  Then rear doors.
                  Then Roof
                  Then Bonnet and front quarter panels.

                  Word of warning though - you want want to allow a good 4 days staright - strip the whole car and just get it done because if you do it the way I suggested then you might just decide its all to hard after the first phase and never finish it all off :-)

                    yeah every panel is connected to another panel and so on. Easier to strip it all

                      I put Dynamat in my little suzuki jeep year and years ago and even in that thing it made a huge difference! The best bit was getting the doors to close with a thud rather than a clang! If you are after a quieter ride i would recommend this stuff 100%
                      2013 (12 build) GX Auto.......with safari snorkel, toyota bar, tow bar, roof racks, led spots with fancy newpro switchgear, uniden remote UHF and aerial, ARB bash plates, Roadsafe recovery points, digoptions radio, general grabber AT2s, cheap ebay roof rack that has stood up surprisingly well.....

                        I have all 4 doors done now. Road noise has gone down a decent amount. That 'thud' that everyone talks about on door closing is worth it alone. I definitely need to do the roof. all the nose is coming from there now. At speed I can feel the roof vibrating slightly which is what dynamat is exactly designed to stop.
                        I found for the cheapskates (or the ones like me that can't be bothered waiting 5 days for delivery of one) a 32mm socket makes a great compression tool for the matting
