  • Kings Air compressor mounting location?

    Hello,

I have an early model Dual Kings air compressor that I'd like to hardwire into my vehicle, and I'm looking for some advice on the best mounting options. It's quite a large unit, and I've managed to fit it into the second battery slot, but it comes into contact with some rubber pipes, and I'm not sure if that's ideal (pictures showing this at end of post).

Has anyone found a better spot to mount it, maybe behind the side boot panels under the cup holders? I know people have done this with smaller units, but im wondering if anyone has managed with a larger unit.

Since I'm a beginner when it comes to auto electrics, I'd like to quickly outline my plan for this installation. I intend to run a positive and negative wire (could someone recommend the appropriate gauge?) from the cranking battery to the air compressor and connect it via an Anderson plug. Is this all I need to do, or should I include a fuse or circuit breaker between the battery and the air compressor? I've seen some YouTubers mention this step, but I'm not sure if it's necessary as I would normally just connect it with the clamps direct to the battery?

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If I couldn't bend the AC hose away from the compressor, I wouldn't do it. I understand the economics of using a compressor you have, but the cost of an AC repair isn't worth it, so maybe a different compressor would be a better option.
FWIW, I did an ARB compressor with KAON bracket at the rear of the engine bay. It's a clean unobtrusive install which I haven't regretted, despite it not being the fastest thing around.

BTW, that 90A current draw of your compressor is a bit savage!

      Agree with above.
Ive owned a kings compressor and they are terrible. Ok if you are going off-road once in your life and that’s it.
Huge amp draw, clunky tyre connections, awkward gauge and just massive.
I mounted a single arb in the spare battery spot. Just as fast as the kings one, heaps easier to use and will last heaps longer.
If you are going to the trouble of mounting it, I would buy a quality product. Otherwise just leave it in the bag in the boot.
If you do hard mount and arb unit, you’ll find it possibly the most useful mod you’ll do if you camp a lot, have bikes or play sports. It’s super handy.

Just to add, not sure on exact cable size for 90amp but you will need some decent cable. The factory cable in the kings unit gets super hot when in use.
Also the smaller Anderson plugs are only rated at 50 amp so you’ll need the bigger ones.
