Having trouble deciding on what brand and model tyre to buy (tow a caravan and do beach driving - 80 bitumen/20 off-road). Bridgestone Dueller 697 'looks' good but attracts criticism in the wet on bitumen. The Dueller A/T 693 rates 'fair'. Any constructive comments/criticism would be greatly appreciated.

If your only off-road is beach work look at the Pirelli Scorpian ATR. I had them for 60k. Still tread left. Good grip on the road wet or dry. Agree with mj, I do rate the D697 quite well, but the Pirelli is cheaper, better on road and handles the beach great. Just don't ask them to do mud. Personally I wouldn't waste my time with the 693, quiet tyre but you can get better for less.[LEFT]Silver 150 Facelift

I run the 697's without an issue doing 80% on road and the rest of the time in the High Country.
Obviously they'll never be as good as a more aggressive tyre offroad but if all you want to do is tow a camper and have more stability and traction then I reckon they're great.Comment

Yeah, the 697's are a really good all round tyre, the Pirelli's are more suited to road and sand, they don't like the mud from what customers have said.[LEFT]Silver 150 Facelift

Check out the Toyo AtII... They come in your size. Got 5 in 265 65 R17's for $1100 including wheel alignment. Happy as with them. Good in wet. I had Cooper ST on my last Prado and they were good off-road, but a little noisy. Went Cooper AT/3 this time. Nice quiet tyre, good on the bitumen and handled some mud quite well last weekend. Overall, pretty good tyre.
