Anyone know the possible differences between my 1997 auto, and 2001-2002 D4D transmissions?

I have the VIN numbers on the donor cars, and Toyotas system came up with different part numbers, for both automatic gearbox and transfer case. But maybe there's a small chance that there are only minor things and they still are interchangeable?

I'm grasping at straws here, but I got a bargain on spare parts, but not a bargain if they don't fit.

Because it would prevent the joint from doing its job.

How is joint supposed to travel inwards if the whole assembly is completely filled with greased? It would be like hydro locking you engine.
Can't see that making a metallic clunk though

        OK, I'm puzzled...

My mind was settled on the problem being the transfer case/center diff.

Removed and stripped the transfer case today and found... Nothing!
The oil was clear as new, no residue or signs of someting being wrong, and after checking every little piece inside I have found nothing obvious.

So, I guess I just have to put it all together again tomorrow. Is there anything inside the A343F gearbox that could cause the symptoms I have described?

As a long shot, check your panhard rod bushes, and control arm bushes.

How can a crush tube, that is there to give correct pre-load on the bearings. Have any thing to do with smooth gear changes???

Nothing I would say. But about the crush sleeves, I would think that it should be fairly simple to find, as some movement of the flange should be possible, and more backlash.

              Cheers
