First of all it is excellent to see such a site and I am looking forward to obtaining some usefull ideas from owners of the same vehicle.
Well I have a Prado 90 2002 TD Grande and like most of us like to set up the vehicle with accessories to complete our 4wd/touring vehicle.
I have fitted out mine with the following,
Arb Sahara Bar
Warn Winch
Old Man Emu Suspension
Driving Lights IPF900XS
Dual Battery
Piranah Isolater
Rear Storage Draws
Piranah Slide
Icom UHF
Rhino Roof Rack
Cooper ST 265x75x16
My concern of late is that the performace of the vehicle up hills has decreased and fuel consumption has increased.
I feel that probably the most significant difference in fuel consumption was when the tyres were fitted approx 1.5 years ago.
Obviously there is an impact of all the above mentoined items to the performance and fuel consumption of the vehicle but the impact is much more then I would have inticipated to the stage were I am wondering wether is it just the additional weight and changes of the tyre diamater or is there something else wrong. I service the vehicle frequently and I am due for the 150,000 service next week. I also notice that oil builds up on the manifold side of the turbo is this normal, Im told that this can happen depending on the quality of the diesel. Going up hills use to be breeze and now it feels like I have my camper trailer on the back when it is not.
I am cosidering purchasing a DP Chip which will increase power from 96kw to 125kw and torque by about 15%. However I want to ensure that the there is nothing really wrong with the vehicle befor I do so. The fuel consumption prior to the change of tyres I would obtain approx 1200 km to the two tanks (159ltrs) and now I would be lucky to get 1000km.
Being that you all drive the same or simular vehicle I would be extremely interested if you have all faced the exact same or wether my sitiuation seems a little extreme. Also for those who have installed a DP Chip (previously U-Tune it) would greatly appreciate some feed back.
