I also changed the engine oil, oil filter and front diff oil late this afternoon. I'm changing the engine oil every 6,000 to 7,000km these days due to the slightly higher kilometres. I won't say high kilometres because they aren't yet. Still using the Nulon 15w-40 mineral grade oil. The exact same oil goes into the wife's 2011 X-Trail too. I used to use Penrite religiously up until a couple of years ago when their prices went stupid, so buggered them off and havn't touched their engine oil since.

but i'm surprised you are changing at 7000 k mark . do you notice it discoloured after 7000km.
The oil i took out was from at least 14000 km that i did and who knows what the [previous owner ,from a year ago .It was fair dirty i must admit , ,,,.Nice and clean now though , we'll see how long it lasts.
What is considered high km . in a standard car we would say 200000 km as getting high , 300ooo and we start saying well its on its last legs, I'm generalizing i know , but what would we say about our ''four b fours'' .
just watched an auction online and a nissan patrol 2003 3ltr with 375000 km had a bid of nearly 10k .If it were a toyota I wonder what the bid would have been.Last edited by Tonz; 27-09-2017, 08:05 PM.

Yeah the oil is black by the 7,000km mark. It could only be left in there for 3,000 and it will appear black when dropped into a drain pan. I used to leave the oil in until 10,000km, but not any more. Have been changing at about 7,000km for a while now. I won't change every 5,000km because to me that's a bit of overkill & 5,000 comes up too fast for me.
I would consider 500,000km high for the V6 engine itself. Yeah other stuff around it in the engine bay fails, but the motor itself will keep punching on so long as those filters and oil are changed regularly.
Strange about the Patrol. They don't normally hold any sort of value. Great if you want to buy one 2nd hand as they get cheap fast, even when kitted out. But the ZD30 3.0L is not without its hereditary issues.2005 120 series V6 Grande, 2 inch susp lift (King/EFS combo), 32 inch MT’s, Safari Snorkel, rear diff lock, breathers, Light Force spotlights, UHF, dual batteries.

Ive found that wine noise i have could be the alternator after all . Reving it out i can hear it screaming when i use a hose to listen to the bearing , but on idle its quite ish . so i ordered one online for 220 bucks and i'll fit it . i'm fairly sure it will sort the issue. I hope it will cuz i dont wanna go on holidays in a week or so and have something bugger out on me on the trip.,,,
The only kinda out i want is the type with a chilled beer in one hand , some good company and some good tales told around the camp fire.

Just changed leads , bought some online that were very well priced and installed them , I was feeling a miss every now and then on start up . well see how it goes but im hoping it will do the trick ,the old leads were dry as and very stiff indeed, they were old all right and probably way over due for a change.
I did do a dumb thing online i bought two sets without realizing , when i noticed days later the order had already been sent and in transit.
\
So if anyone could use a set let me know as i will sell them cheaper than what i bought them for.

I put a Head Unit into where the old CD tape player went. It's got digital radio, reverse camera, can run a forwards camera, Android Auto Play so I can hook whatever maps I need up to it. CD player which opens up behind the screen, really nice responsive touchscreen, hands free phone, 2 USB inputs, a bunch of other stuff. Getting the windows tinted this morning 20% rears and darkest legal drivers windows. Got the power antenna working again while we were at it.

online and in the common shop out lets , i didnt find a suitable electronic antena that was a universal model wich would fit. super cheap had one also for about 60 odd dollas but the thread was just a little short ... i settled for now on a holden antenna as the 90 s have an out let at about 45% angle . and as well as a small area of space under means that it is almost compatible with the holden standard antenna . non electronic. .. it just fit with minor modifications and was only about 20 bucks..
it will do for now . till i think of something better.

I changed all the fanbelts this arvo and the idler pulley. Was driving home this arvo and heard a horrible catastrophic sounding noise from the engine, pulled over and found all but the last belt had ripped themselves apart.
Was able to drive home via Repco because one altenator/water pump belt was still okay, picked up a set of the Gates matched altenator belts and an AC belt as well as a spare altenator belt to pop in the Titan drawers. Plus a new idler pulley because the bearing in the old one wasn't smooth, a little noisy, and a little too wobbly for my liking. The AC pulley seemed good.
Changed the belts over, readjusted them. I think the last person who had done them overtightened them all. Easy to overtighten I reckon. They don't need to be supertight by any means as it puts undue pressure on all the belt driven components and saps a bit of power even.
Test drove it and all okay- I was worried the AC compressor might have seized but it seems to be okay.
As I've only had the car about 4-5 weeks I might go over the service schedule for when the belts should have been changed and go over that. Sure the oil, fuel filter, etc, was done. Obviously the belts weren't, Even the one that didn't break was just holding together.
I'll try and post some pics later.Last edited by Arahat1; 08-04-2018, 07:55 PM.
