Yep Rainman, spent 8 hours over the weekend getting the paintwork beautifully presentable again. Will have a look at the gloss protection for the extra bit of protection
Our 6 year old and 3 year old try their hardest to make sure there is no time or money for the other baby

Painted on some derusting solution on a couple of small spots around the Prado particularly the manifold and also on the axle and springs in the camper trailer. Worked a treat. Chemical reaction - very quick acting.

The polish is the easiest polish I've ever used and leaves no residue. I did my wife's Civic and the finish was so smooth the bottles kept sliding off the boot, roof and bonnet. Give it a try, I'm sure you'll be impressed.
+1 for the Autoglym products. I found out how fantastic they are when I had a black 4wd years ago.

im also running the 120kz ECU aswell
still got the V6 diffs as there better ratio for economy

a mate is doing the same conversion now so it will be interesting to see if theres any difference in ECUs or boxes

front diff drops down the pass side
visually if you saw them both on the floor you wouldnt tell the difference unless you Really knew what to look for

i do need to find the 4wd actuator motor for it though as it was missing , hoping my 120diff lock motor will work(they bolt up in the same bolt holes) other wise i have access to a 95 series center diff lock motor

You have any pics of this conversion?

I've got a few but to be honest the only difference between mine and a factory fitted diesel is my car still runs the V6 snorkel .... I like it this way as there is less piping for the intake

Unfortunately my beloved 90 series is now at the scrap heap after being written off by a P-plater running an intersection

So all the hard work getting it the way i wanted it has all gone and I'll have to start again on the new car. Today bought a 2003 120 which is pretty stock so some fun to come
                Cheers, Dave

What did you do with your Prado today?

Took it for a short spin with the family to the snow country.

Day 1 -Loaded with the roof box and my skiis on top.
Filled with 6 people and luggage for a snow trip.

Day 2 - Sunny day, drove to Smiggins in normal gears.

Day 3 - Ice and snow everywhere! 5 km of nasty slush and then Smiggins car park full of ice patches, no worries for the Prado.
Road from Smiggins to Perisher was covered in snow. Probably didn't need Low range but engaged it anyway to give the gears a spin.
Then back down the mountain and into Thredbo. Overnight car spaces full of ice and snow. Normal gears failed to get car over some
nasty 'ice humps' ( think speed hump but made of ice, snow ploughs can't get in there as roads too narrow. Engage Low range and park Prado
in a space no 2WD could get to.

Here we are parked at Prussian Creek.

Trip Home - was the best part. Tired kids, sleeping wife. Lots of high and low beam changing, driving lights on and off about every 10 seconds heading against the Friday night snow traffic. Then filled the tank at Canberra and when on the freeway engaged the cruise control and ran non-stop for 2-1/2 hours to Liverpool at 110 km/h with the full load. On some of the climbs around Goulburn the V6 was working it's heart out.

Superb vehicle, snow, ice, slush, mountain roads, highways, freeways, and it didn't miss a beat. In fact I think the Prado really enjoyed it's trip as much as it's family did!

I could have got a better photo by driving into the Perisher View driveway but I would have felt like a proper idiot if I needed chains to get back onto the main road. With 4 kids in the car and 'road' tyres I chickened out on testing it's oversnow ability.

Sounds like heaps of fun Robbo. Such a great vehicle aren't they!

Yesterday I installed my revalved rear Bilsteins (see my Bilstein Revalve thread) - I'm very happy with the result.

I'm slightly less happy with the finish on my Brown Davies bashplate. The plate itself is very strong and has already taken a few hits, but the paint has flaked off ALL the edges and cut-out slots. Its less than 18 months old. If you're thinking of getting one of these, see if you can get a discount for an unpainted one and paint it yourself, or have it powder coated. I've taken off all the loose/flaking/bubbling paint of mine and given it a coat of Penetrol. I'm just trying to decide what to paint it with, or if I should even bother painting it..?

Finally got time to fit my Traxrax. Couldn't get the low profile Unistrut locally so had to get a couple of bits of scrap and join them with the welder, paint them and bolt em up.Click image for larger version

Mine had a similar issue with the paint flaking off. Mine get's hit regularly so I occasionally take a flap disc to it and spray over. As long as it's kept clean and protected by some manner of paint most of the time it'll last a very long time. I started with just primer & top coat but found single impacts would usually expose the steel. Cold gal + primer & top coat produces a result which is much more resilient to the impacts (as long as drying times are followed).

I guess powder coating would be more durable but eventually anything is going to be scratched off with harsh treatment.

My old girl had open heart surgery today.

New timing belt, water pump and fixed oil leaks from the rear cam seals.
